Risk Factors Associated with Symptomatic Pulmonary Embolism of Catheter Directed Thrombolysis for Lower Extremity Deep Venous Thrombosis.
The aim was to study the risk factors associated with symptomatic pulmonary embolism (PE) in patients with deep venous thrombosis (DVT) in the lower limbs treated by catheter directed thrombolysis (CDT) without inferior vena cava filter (IVCF) placement. ⋯ The risk of developing symptomatic PE is most markedly increased in patients with previous silent PE and heart disease. Selective rather than routine IVCF placement is an appropriate approach.

Neuroprotective Strategies Can Prevent Permanent Paraplegia in the Majority of Patients Who Develop Spinal Cord Ischaemia After Endovascular Repair of Thoracoabdominal Aortic Aneurysms.
Spinal cord ischaemia (SCI) following endovascular thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm (TAAA) repair is a devastating and unpredictable complication. This study describes a single unit's experience of SCI in patients who have had endovascular TAAA repair. ⋯ This series highlights some of the risk factors associated with the development of SCI after endovascular repair of TAAAs. It also illustrates the importance of a dedicated institutional protocol aimed at ensuring the early diagnosis of SCI and prompt intervention to reverse permanent paraplegia in the majority of cases.

Early Results of Physician Modified Fenestrated Stent Grafts for the Treatment of Thoraco-abdominal Aortic Aneurysms.
The aim was to determine whether physician modified stent grafts (PMSGs) are safe and effective for the treatment of high risk patients with thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysms (TAAAs). ⋯ PMSGs provided acceptable short-term results and may be a management option for the treatment of TAAA in selected high risk patients. Durability concerns need to be assessed in additional studies with long-term follow up.
