Comparative StudyMonitoring of Foot Oxygenation with Near-infrared Spectroscopy in Patients with Critical Limb Ischemia Undergoing Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty: A Pilot Study.
Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) non-invasively determines tissue oxygen saturation (Sto2) in muscle tissue. Its application to monitor real time hemodynamic changes during percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) and Sto2 changes in feet 4 weeks after PTA was evaluated. ⋯ NIRS monitoring of foot oxygenation in patients undergoing endovascular revascularization is safe and feasible. NIRS is a promising non-invasive technique to monitor hemodynamic changes in the feet of CLI patients after endovascular treatment using single Sto2 values.

Multicenter StudyMassive Blood Transfusion in Patients with Ruptured Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm.
The aim was to study blood transfusions and blood product ratios in massively transfused patients treated for ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms (rAAAs). ⋯ The majority of rAAA patients undergoing EVAR required MT. EVAR patients treated with MT had lower FFP/RBC and PLT/RBC ratios than OR patients with MT. The mortality risk was lower with FFP/RBC ratio close to 1:1 in open repaired patients requiring MT. The 24 h PLT/RBC ratio increased over the study period.

Observational StudyLate Fate of Cryopreserved Arterial Allografts.
Initial enthusiasm for use of cryopreserved arterial allografts was subsequently tempered by suboptimal long-term outcome. Thrombosis, anastomotic pseudo-aneurysm, allograft disruption, aneurysmal degeneration, recurrent intestinal fistulization, and persistent infection are commonly reported in series with long-term follow-up. The authors reviewed their experience over the past 15 years with the use of cryopreserved arterial allografts as a vascular substitute for vascular prosthetic infection or for primary arterial infection, to investigate allograft-related complications. ⋯ This series highlights some shortcomings of cryopreserved arterial allografts in the long term, including suboptimal outcome-results and shortage of material. The authors discuss the allograft-related complications and suggest some tricks to minimize their risk.
