Surgical versus medical treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in nonseverely obese patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
To compare surgical versus medical treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remission and comorbidities in patients with a body mass index (BMI) less than 35 kg/m2. ⋯ Metabolic surgery is superior to medical treatment for short-term remission of T2DM and comorbidities. Further RCTs should address the long-term effects on T2DM complications and mortality.

To describe the burden of road transport-related serious injury in Victoria, Australia, over a 10-year period, after the introduction of an integrated trauma system. ⋯ Since introduction of the trauma system in Victoria, Australia, the burden of road transport-related serious injury has decreased. Hospitalized major trauma cases increased, whereas disability burden per case declined. Increased survival does not necessarily result in an overall increase in nonfatal injury burden.

To assess the proportion of outpatient surgery currently delivered in ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) unconnected to nearby hospitals. ⋯ Most ASCs are strongly connected to their local health system. Thus, efforts to constrain spending should target population-based rates of surgery, not unconnected ASCs.
