Laparoscopic Lavage in the Management of Hinchey Grade III Diverticulitis: A Systematic Review.
To compare the outcomes of laparoscopic lavage and sigmoid resection in perforated diverticulitis with purulent peritonitis. ⋯ Laparoscopic lavage used in the management of Hinchey grade III diverticulitis leads to more reinterventions within 30 days postoperatively, but does not increase the 30 or 90-day mortality rates compared with sigmoid resection.

Safety of Overlapping Surgery at a High-volume Referral Center.
To compare safety profiles of overlapping and nonoverlapping surgical procedures at a large tertiary-referral center where overlapping surgery is performed. ⋯ These findings from administrative and clinical registries support the safety of overlapping surgical procedures at this center but may not extrapolate to other centers.

To examine opioid prescribing patterns after general surgery procedures and to estimate an ideal number of pills to prescribe. ⋯ There is wide variability in opioid prescriptions for common general surgery procedures. In many cases excess pills are prescribed. Using our ideal number, surgeons can adequately treat postoperative pain and markedly decrease the number of opioids prescribed.
