Changes in Prescription Drug Use After Gastric Bypass Surgery: A Nationwide Cohort Study.
To evaluate changes over time in drug use among patients undergoing Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) surgery and a matched population-based comparison cohort. ⋯ Three years after RYGB surgery, we found large reductions in the use of treatment of metabolic syndrome-related conditions, inhalants for obstructive airway diseases and glucocorticoid use. In contrast, frequent use of neuropsychiatric drugs further increased after RYGB.

Clinical Outcome and Biological Predictors of Relapse After Nephrectomy Only for Very Low-risk Wilms Tumor: A Report From Children's Oncology Group AREN0532.
To determine if observation alone after nephrectomy in very low-risk Wilms tumor (defined as stage I favorable histology Wilms tumors with nephrectomy weight <550g and age at diagnosis <2 years) results in satisfactory event-free survival and overall survival, and to correlate relapse with biomarkers. ⋯ Most patients meeting very low-risk criteria can be safely managed by nephrectomy alone with resultant reduced exposure to chemotherapy. Expansion of an observation alone strategy for low-risk Wilms tumor incorporating both clinical features and biomarkers should be considered.

Predictors of In-hospital Postoperative Opioid Overdose After Major Elective Operations: A Nationally Representative Cohort Study.
The aim of this study was to describe national trends and outcomes of in-hospital postoperative opioid overdose (OD) and identify predictors of postoperative OD. ⋯ Postoperative OD is a rare, but potentially lethal complication, with increasing incidence. Postoperative monitoring and treatment safety interventions should be thoughtfully employed to target high-risk patients and avoid this potentially fatal complication.
