Comparative Study
Outcome of 1000 Patients With Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST) Treated by Surgery in the Pre and Post-imatinib Eras.
To characterize the results of surgery for gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) in the pre and post-imatinib eras at a single institution and to identify current prognostic clinicopathologic factors. ⋯ Patients treated in the imatinib era had prolonged OS across all presentations. In the imatinib era, among site, size, and mitotic rate, high-risk features were associated with treatment with the drug, but only size >10 cm correlated with outcome. Imatinib should still be prescribed for patients with high-risk features.

We present a series of cases where we used 3D printing in planning of complex liver surgery. ⋯ In complex liver surgery with potential need for vascular reconstructions operation planning may be optimized using a 3D printed liver model. Prospective studies are needed to evaluate the clinical impact of 3D printing in liver surgery compared to other 3D visualizations.

Meta Analysis Comparative Study
Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy Versus Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Weight Loss, Comorbidities, and Biochemical Outcomes From Randomized Controlled Trials.
The aim of this study was to compare weight loss, obesity-related comorbidities, and biochemical outcomes of LSG versus LRYGB through a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). ⋯ There are insufficient data from RCTs to draw any conclusions regarding the long-term comparative effectiveness beyond 3 years between LRYGB and LSG.

Synthetic Versus Biological Mesh in Laparoscopic and Open Ventral Hernia Repair (LAPSIS): Results of a Multinational, Randomized, Controlled, and Double-blind Trial.
The aim of this study was to investigate the approach (open or laparoscopic) and mesh type (synthetic or biological) in ventral hernias in a clean setting.Summary of Background Data: The level of evidence on the optimal surgical approach and type of mesh in ventral hernia repair is still low. ⋯ The use of Surgisis Gold biological mesh is not recommended for noncomplex ventral hernia repair.
