To compare the oncologic outcomes of liver resection (LR) and local ablation therapies for HCC. ⋯ Our meta-analysis showed that LR was superior to RFA in terms of RFS and incidence of local recurrence. Moreover, LR showed better oncologic outcomes than MWA or RFA plus TACE.

Impact of Oral Immunonutrition on Postoperative Morbidity in Digestive Oncologic Surgery: A Nation-Wide Cohort Study.
The objective of the present study was to assess the effect of preoperative immunonutrition on a nationwide scale. ⋯ The preoperative use of immunonutrition before major oncologic digestive surgery was not associated with any significant difference in morbidity or mortality. However, the LOS was significantly shorter in the IN-group.

Preoperative Ultrasound Assessment of Regional Lymph Nodes in Melanoma Patients Does not Provide Reliable Nodal Staging: Results from a Large Multicenter Trial.
To assess whether preoperative ultrasound (US) assessment of regional lymph nodes in patients who present with primary cutaneous melanoma provides accurate staging. ⋯ In the MSLT-II screening phase population, SN tumor volume was usually too small to be reliably detected by US. For accurate nodal staging to guide the management of melanoma patients, US is not an effective substitute for SN biopsy.

Recently, surgeon scientists have started to grapple with structural racism’s effect on health and prior academic failures in codifying and promoting institutionalized racism in research and clinical practice. In this Surgical Perspective, we hope to describe our journey of being humbled by the vast work of social epidemiologists on racism and health, and we will offer our reflections on how to apply this work to future research and practice.
