The objective is to determine how the COVID-19 pandemic affected care for patients undergoing thoracic surgery for cancer. ⋯ Telemedicine enabled cancer care to continue during the COVID-19 pandemic without delays in surgery, cancer progression, or worsened postoperative morbidity and was generally well received.

To quantify procedure-level inappropriate antimicrobial prophylaxis utilization as a strategy to identify high-priority targets for stewardship efforts in pediatric surgery. ⋯ Cholecystectomy, inguinal hernia repair, and procedures involving the small and large bowel should be considered high-priority targets for antimicrobial stewardship efforts in pediatric surgery.

The aim was to determine the prevalence of metastases to the cervical and recurrent laryngeal cervicothoracic (CT) nodes as well as survival and recurrence patterns after esophagectomy with three-field lymph node dissection (TFD) in patients with predominately adenocarcinoma (AC) of the esophagus. ⋯ Metastases to the CT nodes are common in both SCC and AC of the esophagus and may be present in at least 14% of early lesions. Five-year survival is encouraging particularly for patients with esophageal SCC cancer.

Artificial Intelligence-enabled Decision Support in Surgery: State-of-the-art and Future Directions.
To summarize state-of-the-art artificial intelligence-enabled decision support in surgery and to quantify deficiencies in scientific rigor and reporting. ⋯ Artificial intelligence-enabled decision support in surgery is limited by reliance on internal validation, small sample sizes that risk overfitting and sacrifice predictive performance, and failure to report confidence intervals, precision, equity analyses, and clinical implementation. Researchers should strive to improve scientific quality.

To compare rates of venous thromboembolism (VTE) and postpancreatectomy hemorrhage (PPH) in patients with pancreatic or periampullary malignancy preimplementation and postimplementation of routine extended VTE prophylaxis. ⋯ Extended VTE prophylaxis following pancreatectomy for malignancy was not associated with differences in postdischarge VTE and PPH rates. These data suggest extended VTE prophylaxis is safe but may not be necessary for all patients following pancreatectomy.
