Comparative StudyComparison of a radial artery compression device with invasive radial artery blood pressure monitoring.
The goal of this study was to validate the accuracy of the Primo radial artery compression device (RACD) according to the guidelines recommended by the American National Standards Institute/Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) SP10-2002 Standards for Electronic or Automated Sphygmomanometers. ⋯ The RACD meets the guidelines for automated blood pressure monitors set by the AAMI SP10-2002 Standards for Electronic or Automated Sphygmomanometers with an accuracy of +/- 5 mmHg and SD of 8 mmHg or less for both SBP and DBP measurements.

ReviewAssessment of the validation of blood pressure monitors: a statistical reappraisal.
Protocols to determine the accuracy of noninvasive blood pressure monitors have been published by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, the British Hypertension Society, and the European Society of Hypertension (ESH). We compared the statistical basis for each of these protocols. Although the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation and British Hypertension Society protocols require a minimum of 85 participants, the ESH protocol requires only 33 participants. The reduced sample size results in a reduction in statistical power from 98 to 70%, which brings into question the applicability of the ESH (International) protocol.

Validation of the A&D UM-101 professional hybrid device for office blood pressure measurement according to the International Protocol.
Assessment of the accuracy of the A&D UM-101 mercury-free professional device for auscultatory blood pressure (BP) measurement according to the European Society of Hypertension International Protocol. Further to auscultation, the device has a button to mark readings during deflation. ⋯ The device comfortably passed the validation protocol requirements. Using the mark button, the device, however, failed to meet the validation criteria. Therefore, it is recommended for clinical use without using the mark button.

Comparative StudyBeat-to-beat agreement of noninvasive tonometric and intra-radial arterial blood pressure during microgravity and hypergravity generated by parabolic flights.
Accurate measurement of beat-to-beat arterial blood pressure is essential for understanding the cardiovascular adaptation to weightlessness; however, the intra-arterial standard of beat-to-beat blood pressure measurement has never been used during space flight because of its invasive nature. ⋯ We conclude that the Colin CBM-7000 can be used with confidence during space flight.
