Seroprevalence of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) and Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) In District Vehari, Pakistan.
The aim of the study was to evaluate the prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) in district Vehari, Pakistan; and to highlight the alarming situation of HCV. This survey was conducted in the district from June to August 2018. A total of 697 (72.99%) cases out of 955, were found to be infected with hepatitis viruses, among which, 681 (71.3%) were infected with HCV and 16 (1.68%) with HBV. ⋯ Overall age ranged from 31 to 60 years, with females from 51-60 years; infected with HCV and HBV in male with age range 19-30 years infected with HBV. The situation of the seroprevalence of HCV is alarming and the authorities in Pakistan should take extensive measures for the elimination of the hepatitis viruses from Pakistan. Case ReportsMultimodal Imaging of Optic Nerve Drusen in a 10-year Hyperopic Child.
Optic nerve drusen (OND) are abnormal calcified acellular deposits located within the prelaminar portion of the optic nerve. They are usually asymptomatic and detected incidentally during fundoscopic examination. ⋯ After diagnostic tests, including B-scan ultrasonography (USG) and enhanced depth imaging optic coherence tomography (EDI OCT), she was diagnosed with bilateral OND. Case ReportsMycobacterium Abscessus: A Rare Cause of Peri-Ductal Mastitis in Endemic Regions.
Mycobacterium abscessus is a rapidly growing non-tuberculous, multi-drug resistant mycobacterium (NTM). Its common clinical presentation includes pulmonary infection followed by wide spectrum of skin and soft tissue infections. Chronic breast conditions, such as peri-ductal mastitis are rarely caused by NTM. ⋯ Subsequently, she was diagnosed as a case of peri-ductal mastitis for which quadrantectomy was performed; and surprisingly mycobacterium abscessus was identified on AFB culture. Full recovery was obtained with combination of antibiotics for prolonged period due to frequent relapses. Key Words: Mastitis, Mycobacterium abscessus, Non-tuberculous mycobacteria.
