Emergency surgery in a patient with large spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma determining excellent neurological recovery: review of the literature.
Case report. ⋯ Spinal epidural hematoma (SEH) is a rare clinical finding that can occur following trauma or spontaneously (SSEH). We describe, to the best of our knowledge, the second most extensive idiopathic SSEH and the longest with involvement of the dorso-lumbar spine that had a excellent functional outcome due to emergency decompressive laminectomy, which is emphasized in the treatment of these rare pathologies.

Cross-sectional study. ⋯ The suggested cutoff for Japanese men with SCI is a VFA of 100 cm(2), which is lower than that in the healthy able-bodied population for both WC and BMI. Further investigation is needed to determine the reference value for estimating SCI-specific VF accumulation.

Population-based prospective study. ⋯ The incidence rates of TSCI were markedly higher than expected, demonstrating the previously hidden morbidity. The epidemiological features of TSCI appeared to follow the trends in developed countries, highlighting the increasing incidence of cervical lesions due to falling among the elderly. The results need to be confirmed in an extended follow-up.
