Multicenter Study
The individual experience of functioning and disability in Switzerland--patient perspective and person-centeredness in spinal cord injury.
Qualitative, multi-center study. ⋯ The ICF coding showed the broad range of relevant aspects in the functioning experience of persons with SCI. Besides body limitations (especially paralysis and pain), the most relevant concepts covered mainly barriers in physical environment, assistive devices and social support, as well as the impact on everyday life regarding leisure and work. The resulting list of ICF categories can be helpful in facilitating person-centered clinical care and research.

The objective of this study is to assess the temporal trends in the incidence and demographic characteristics of traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI) among children and adolescents in a geographically defined cohort in western Norway during 1952-2001. ⋯ The age-adjusted incidence of TSCI among the adolescents increased, whereas the age-adjusted incidence among children remained low during the 50 years. TSCI was highly associated with car and pedestrian accidents among children. Among adolescents, TSCI was associated with car and motorcycle accidents. Awareness of these factors is important in prevention planning strategies.

Retrospective chart review of cervical spinal cord injury patients, who underwent videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS). ⋯ Because of the possibility of silent aspiration, we recommend that physicians treating patients with cervical spinal cord injury should always take the possibility of dysphagia and silent aspiration into consideration, especially in case of previous manifestation of pneumonia, presence of tracheostomy, or presence of signs and symptoms indicating dysphagia.

Multicenter Study
United States (US) multi-center study to assess the validity and reliability of the Spinal Cord Independence Measure (SCIM III).
Multi-center, prospective, cohort study. ⋯ Overall, the SCIM III is a reliable and valid measure of functional change in SCI. However, improved scoring instructions and a few modifications to the scoring categories may reduce variability between raters and enhance clinical utility.

Multicenter Study
Expected spinal cord independence measure, third version, scores for various neurological levels after complete spinal cord lesions.
Multicenter international cohort study. ⋯ Calculated discharge SCIM III scores can be used as target values for functional achievements at various neurological levels in patients after AIS A SCL. They are generally, but not always, inversely correlated with SCL level.
