The significance of serum urokinase plasminogen activation receptor (suPAR) in the diagnosis and follow-up of febrile neutropenic patients with hematologic malignancies.
The purpose of this study was to investigate serum levels of serum urokinase plasminogen activation receptor (suPAR) during the first week of febrile neutropenia and to demonstrate the significance of this biomarker in the diagnosis and follow-up of febrile neutropenic patients with hematologic malignancies. ⋯ We conclude that suPAR is an important biomarker that can predict infections in the early stage of febrile neutropenia with high sensitivity and NPV for patients with hematologic malignancies. It is also advantageous since it shows the response to treatment with antibiotherapy in the early stage.

Case ReportsPulmonary artery pseudoaneurysm caused by Streptococcus constellatus.
We report a rare case of mycotic pulmonary artery pseudoaneurysm (PAP) secondary to a lung abscess due to Streptococcus constellatus. PAP was confirmed by the pathological findings of the pseudoaneurysm, the presence of bacteria, and the microbiological analysis. PAP is uncommon, but it is important to recognize this condition because PAP can lead to fatal hemoptysis.

ReviewTherapeutic options for Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV)--possible lessons from a systematic review of SARS-CoV therapy.
The Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) has been detected in a number of countries in the Middle East and Europe with an apparently high mortality rate. It is phylogenetically related to the SARS coronavirus and has also been associated with severe respiratory illness as well as nosocomial transmission in healthcare settings. ⋯ It is possible that these might be active against the related MERS coronavirus. We have reviewed the literature on the safety and efficacy of therapies used in patients with SARS with a view to their potential use in patients with MERS-CoV infections.

Impact of a multidimensional infection control approach on catheter-associated urinary tract infection rates in an adult intensive care unit in Lebanon: International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium (INICC) findings.
The objective of this study was to assess the impact of a multidimensional infection control approach for the reduction of catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) in an adult intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital member of the International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium (INICC) in Lebanon. ⋯ Our multidimensional approach was associated with a significant reduction in the CAUTI rate.

Case ReportsGroup B streptococcal bacteremia in a major teaching hospital in Malaysia: a case series of eighteen patients.
Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a leading cause of infections such as meningitis and septicemia in neonates and pregnant women; however the significance of invasive GBS disease has not been clearly defined in non-pregnant adults. ⋯ GBS bacteremia is a significant problem and is associated with serious underlying disease, which may result in a high rate of mortality, not only in neonates and pregnant women, but also in non-pregnant adults.
