Effective tobacco control policies include price increases through taxes, restrictions on smoking in public and work places, adequately funded mass media campaigns, bans on advertising, health warnings on packages and cessation assistance. As these policies have been largely implemented in Australia, what next should the country do in tobacco control? ⋯ The release of the Australian 2009 National Preventative Health Taskforce's report presents an opportunity to translate these ideas into action.
