The usefulness of the absolute N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-ProBNP) concentration and its digit number for screening for cardiac disease was explored in new haemodialysis patients. ⋯ The NT-proBNP concentration just before the first dialysis session is a useful tool for screening for cardiac abnormalities. Considering the wide variation of the NT-proBNP cutoff levels depending on each cardiac abnormality, the digit number could be potentially easier to use for initial risk stratification for cardiac disease in new dialysis patients.

Observational Study
Derivation and validation of a prediction score for acute kidney injury in patients hospitalized with acute heart failure in a Chinese cohort.
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication among patients hospitalized for acute heart failure (AHF), and is associated with increased mortality. The goal of this study was to derive and validate a prediction score for AKI in AHF patients. ⋯ The newly derived and validated clinical prediction score may effectively predict AKI in the patients hospitalized with AHF.
