Comparative Study
C-reactive protein and other predictors of poor outcome in patients hospitalized with exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
CRP is elevated in patients with acute exacerbations of COPD (AECOPD), but there is little information on whether this biomarker can help to identify adverse short-term clinical outcomes. ⋯ Plasma CRP in combination with other variables obtained at admission may assist identification of high-risk patients with AECOPD.

Comparative Study
Clinicopathological analysis of multifocal micronodular pneumocyte hyperplasia associated with tuberous sclerosis in Japan.
This study investigated the clinical and pathological findings of lung disease in tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) as previously reported in Japan. ⋯ Surgical investigation and immunohistochemical staining for pathological markers are useful for diagnosing MMPH when the radiological findings indicate multiple micronodules with ground-glass opacity in patients with TSC.

This study was performed to confirm the cross-sectional and longitudinal construct validity of the Saint George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) for the measurement of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with IPF. ⋯ HRQoL as assessed by the SGRQ showed good cross-sectional and longitudinal construct validity in patients with IPF. However, additional studies are required to analyse the reliability and responsiveness so that the SGRQ can be used in patients with IPF.
