Review Meta Analysis
Apnoeic oxygenation during paediatric tracheal intubation: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Supplemental oxygen administration by apnoeic oxygenation during laryngoscopy for tracheal intubation is intended to prolong safe apnoea time, reduce the risk of hypoxaemia, and increase the success rate of first-attempt tracheal intubation under general anaesthesia. This systematic review examined the efficacy and effectiveness of apnoeic oxygenation during tracheal intubation in children. ⋯ Protocol registered prospectively on PROSPERO (registration number: CRD42022369000) on December 2, 2022.

Tranexamic acid is an antifibrinolytic drug that is commonly administered for obstetric haemorrhage. Conventional viscoelastic tests are not sensitive to tranexamic acid, but the novel ClotPro® TPA-test can measure tranexamic acid-induced inhibition of fibrinolysis. We aimed to evaluate the TPA-test in pregnant and non-pregnant women. ⋯ The ClotPro® TPA-test is sensitive in detecting inhibition of fibrinolysis by tranexamic acid in whole blood samples of pregnant and non-pregnant women. The concentration-effect relationship of tranexamic acid to inhibit fibrinolysis in whole blood did not differ for women in the first, second, and third trimester or for non-pregnant women.

Amongst electroencephalographic markers of anaesthetic-induced unresponsiveness, those that estimate loss of frontoparietal functional connectivity detect loss of sensory perceptual connection with the outside world, rather than full phenomenological unconsciousness. This transition to unconsciousness is manifest as further incremental changes in indices of electroencephalographic complexity.

Adenotonsillectomy is the most common indication for sleep-disordered breathing in children. Measuring pharyngeal closing pressures in anaesthetised children allows identification of severe obstructive sleep apnoea. This technique could help quantify immediate surgical impact and risk stratify postoperative treatment in these patients.
