Review Meta AnalysisChronic obstructive pulmonary disease and mortality from pneumonia: meta-analysis.
We aimed to determine whether patients with concomitant community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are at greater risk of death when compared with those with CAP or acute COPD exacerbation alone. We also assessed the effect of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) on pneumonia mortality in COPD. ⋯ Evidence on associated mortality risk with concomitant CAP and COPD (as opposed to CAP alone, or COPD exacerbation alone) is weak and heterogeneous. ICS use was not consistently associated with reduced mortality from pneumonia.

More than 350,000 new cases of bladder cancer are diagnosed worldwide each year; the vast majority (> 90%) of these are transitional cell carcinomas (TCC). The most important risk factors for the development of bladder cancer are smoking and occupational exposure to toxic chemicals. Painless visible haematuria is the most common presenting symptom of bladder cancer; significant haematuria requires referral to a specialist urology service. ⋯ Radical cystectomy (with pelvic lymphadenectomy and urinary diversion) or radical radiotherapy are the current established treatments for muscle invasive TCC. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is recommended before definitive treatment of muscle invasive TCC; cisplatin-containing combination chemotherapy is the recommended regimen. Palliative chemotherapy is the first-choice treatment in metastatic TCC.

Clinical TrialRepeated intravesical onabotulinumtoxinA injections are effective in treatment of refractory interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome.
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of repeated intravesical onabotulinumtoxinA (BoNT-A) injections for treatment of interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS). ⋯ Four repeated intravesical BoNT-A injections were safe and effective for symptom and pain relief and increased bladder capacity for treatment of IC/BPS.
