Observational StudyComparison of the postoperative analgesic effectiveness of US-guided caudal block and US-guided pudendal nerve block in circumcision.
To compare the postoperative analgesic efficacy and postoperative complications of the pudendal nerve block (PNB) and caudal block (CB) with ultrasound (US). ⋯ This first prospective study in the literature shows that US-guided PNB provided a more pronounced and longer analgesic effect and resulted in less requirement for postoperative analgesics than US-guided CB.

Evaluation of the relationship between TREM-1/TREM-2 ratio and clinical course in COVID-19 pneumonia.
The inflammatory/anti-inflammatory balance has an important role in the clinical course of SARS-CoV-2 infection (COVID-19), which has affected over 100 million people since it first appeared in China in December 2019. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells (TREM)-1/TREM-2 ratio and COVID-19 severity. ⋯ Experience with the positive effects of medical treatments to restore inflammatory balance in the course of COVID-19 is steadily increasing. TREM-1 and TREM-2 have an important role in inflammation and may serve as biomarkers and therapeutic targets in the early treatment and follow-up of COVID-19.

Patients with schizophrenia have decreased COVID-19 prevalence among hospitalized patients with psychiatric and neurological diseases: a retrospective analysis in Mexican population.
Increased coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) incidence and mortality in hospitalised patients with psychiatric and neurologic disorders have been reported. ⋯ The prevalence of COVID-19 in hospitalised patients with psychiatric disorders is increased compared with that of the general population; however, a lower mortality rate was detected. Also, an increased risk of COVID-19 was detected in patients with comorbidities. Interestingly, the observed variation in COVID-19 prevalence in patients with schizophrenia and intellectual disability was not associated with age or other specific medical diagnoses.

Revised hospital antibiotic formulary reduces antimicrobial consumption and promotes a shift towards narrow-spectrum antibiotic usage.
In Japan, the national action plan to adress antimicrobial resistance problems aimed to reduce the use of oral cephalosporins, quinolones, and macrolides per day per 1000 inhabitants by 50% from the levelin 2013 by 2020. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a revised antibiotic formulary on in- and out-hospital oral antibiotic prescribing practices at a 600-bed university hospital. ⋯ The revised hospital antibiotic formulary reduced total antibiotic consumption and increased the use of narrow-spectrum antibiotics for both in- and out-hospital prescriptions.

Associations between Dietary Intake of B-vitamins and Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Elderly Men: A Cross-Sectional Study.
Low intake of B vitamins can lead to hyperhomocysteinaemia, which is reported as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, little is known about this relationship. Therefore, we decided to examine the association between dietary intake of B vitamins and cardiovascular risk factors in elderly men. ⋯ In elderly men, a high dietary intake of total B vitamins and vitamin B9 was associated with lower odds of having a high WC. Similarly, high dietary intake of vitamin B6 and B9 was associated with lower odds of having a high hs-CRP level.
