Female Gender is Associated with a Worse Prognosis Among Patients Hospitalized for De-novo Acute Heart Failure.
Recent evidence showed that new-onset (de-novo) acute heart failure (AHF) is a distinct type of AHF. However, the prognostic implication of gender on these patients remains unclear. ⋯ Amongst patients with de-novo AHF, women had higher mortality rates compared with men. The observed gender-related differences in de-novo AHF patients highlight the need for further and deeper research in this field.

Does Management of Lipid Lowering Differ Between Specialists and Primary Care: Insights from GOAL Canada.
We studied whether significant differences in care gaps exist between specialists and primary care physicians (PCPs). ⋯ Despite minor differences in the clinical profile of their patients, both PCPs and specialists actively participate in the management of lipid-lowering therapy in high-risk CVD patients and experience similar challenges and care gaps.

Prevalence and Predictors of Polypharmacy in Jordanian Hospitalized Patients: A cross-sectional Study.
This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and predictors of polypharmacy in hospitalised patients in Jordan to help guide healthcare efforts in decreasing the burden on the healthcare system. ⋯ The present study showed that polypharmacy is prevalent among patients in Jordan. While polypharmacy was not affected by smoking status, gender, BMI and educational level, it was significantly affected by monthly income and age. Further plans should be put in place to reduce polypharmacy, starting with effective pharmaceutical care services leading to treatment optimisation and ensuring desired treatment outcomes.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the most common cancers among men in the world. Prostate-specific antigen is the most used biomarker for PCa diagnosis. In this study, we aimed to measure the procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in patients with PCa. ⋯ We found that the elevated procalcitonin level was associated with prostate cancer. Further studies are needed to define the relationship between procalcitonin and prostate cancer.

Diffusion Tensor Imaging in early prediction of renal fibrosis in patients with renal disease: Functional and histopathological correlations.
Renal fibrosis (RF) is a well-known marker of chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression. However, renal biopsy is an available tool for evaluation of RF, non-invasive tools are needed not only to detect but also to monitor the progression of fibrosis. The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in the assessment of renal dysfunction and RF in patients with renal disease. ⋯ DTI appears to represent a valuable tool for the non-invasive assessment of renal dysfunction and renal fibrosis.
