The Association of Seasonal Variations and COVID-19 Clinical Features: A Comparative Study on the Fourth and Fifth Waves.
The COVID-19 pandemic has overwhelmed many healthcare systems. Seasonality is a feature of several infectious diseases. Studies regarding the association of seasonal variations and COVID-19 have shown controversial results. Therefore, we aimed to compare COVID-19 characteristics and survival outcomes between the fourth and fifth waves in Iran, which corresponded to spring and summer, respectively. ⋯ Our study indicated that patients in the summer COVID-19 wave were more likely to present with gastrointestinal symptoms. They also experienced a more severe disease in terms of peripheral capillary oxygen saturation, percentages of pulmonary involvement in CT scans, and length of hospital stay.

The Hemoglobin-to-Red Cell Distribution Width Ratio to Predict All-Cause Mortality in Patients with Sepsis-Associated Encephalopathy in the MIMIC-IV Database.
The hemoglobin-to-red cell distribution width ratio (HRR) is associated with the prognosis of sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE). This study aimed to determine the relationship between HRR and SAE and to clarify the possible mechanism of HRR as a prognostic factor for SAE. ⋯ This large retrospective study found a nonlinear relationship between all-cause mortality and HRR in patients with SAE in intensive care units, with low HRR being inversely associated with increased all-cause mortality in patients with SAE.

Delays in Diagnosis and Treatment in Patients Underwent Endobronchial Ultrasound-Transbronchial Needle Aspiration (EBUS-TBNA).
Endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) has been recognized as the first method of choice in the diagnosis of mediastinal and hilar lesions. Although the procedure is commonly used, there is no study assessing its contribution to the duration required for diagnosis and treatment. In this study, we aimed to determine the extent of diagnosis and treatment delays when using the EBUS-TBNA procedure and to address the possible factors contributing to these delays. ⋯ We found that approximately ¾ of the patients had a delay and this is not acceptable in real terms. Considering that the patient burden is increasing day by day, it is necessary to make a radical change in health care or a change in strategy in order to prevent delays. EBUS-TBNA, which is in the diagnosis delay subgroup, is less invasive and accelerates the process.

High Dietary Diabetes Risk Reduction Score Is Associated with Decreased Risk of Chronic Kidney Disease in Tehranian Adults.
In the current study, we examined the association of dietary diabetes risk reduction score (DDRRS) with chronic kidney disease (CKD) among an Iranian adult population. ⋯ The present study's findings suggest that greater adherence to a dietary pattern with a higher score of DDRRS may be associated with a lower risk of CKD incident.

ReviewCancer-Associated Thrombosis: Not All Low-Molecular-Weight Heparins Are the Same, Focus on Tinzaparin, A Narrative Review.
Cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT) is the second main cause of cancer death with high related mortality and morbidity, leading to anticancer agent delays and interruptions. The recommended therapy, low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH), however, is burdensome for patients and costly for society, as treatment should last until cancer is no longer active, even indefinitely. ⋯ Compared to the other LMWHs, advantages are single-daily dose and safety in the elderly and those with renal impairment (RI). The purpose of this review is to critically discuss recent data on its efficacy and safety in CAT.
