To explore the potential relationship between NLR and micronutrient deficiency in patients with severe COVID-19 infection. ⋯ The micronutrient deficiency in the blood is associated with NLR in the severity of COVID-19 patients.

Association of Interleukin-17F Polymorphism and Mortality Predictors with the Risk of COVID-19.
Th-17 cells, a proinflammatory subset of CD4 T lymphocytes, have been suggested as a possible cause of coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19)-related immunological injuries. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between IL-17F (rs763780) polymorphism and the susceptibility to and outcomes of COVID-19 infection and to determine the clinical and laboratory predictors of COVID-19 death. ⋯ The findings indicate that the IL-17F H161R variant does not influence the risk of COVID-19. However, the IL-17 level is a perfect discriminator of COVID-19 infection. Hypertension, age of >57 years, white blood cell count of >12.6 × 103/mm3, and D-dimer of >0.9 ng/ml are the independent predictors for death among COVID-19 patients.

Association of BIRC5 Gene Polymorphism with the Collateral Circulation and Severity of Large Artery Atherosclerotic Stroke.
The collateral circulation near the cerebral artery occlusion can contribute to the relief of the symptoms and signs of stroke. Genetic factors play a decisive role in the difference in collateral circulation. Survivin, encoded by the baculoviral inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) repeat-containing 5 gene (BIRC5), plays an important role in maintaining long-term endothelial integrity and homeostasis and as an angiogenic factor in the treatment of vascular diseases. We hypothesized that genetic variations in the BIRC5 gene may contribute to severity by influencing the collateral circulation. This study aimed at examining how the polymorphism of the BIRC5 gene correlated with the collateral circulation and severity of large artery atherosclerotic stroke. ⋯ Our findings identified the SNP of rs2071214 of the BIRC5 gene as a risk factor for the poor compensatory ability of collateral circulation and a predictor of stroke severity in large artery atherosclerotic stroke, which suggested that the SNP of rs2071214 can serve as an innovative therapeutic target for patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Prevalence of Neuropathic Component in Post-COVID Pain Symptoms in Previously Hospitalized COVID-19 Survivors.
To investigate the prevalence of neuropathic pain symptoms and to analyze the correlation between neuropathic symptoms with pain-related, psychological, and cognitive variables in COVID-19 survivors exhibiting "de novo" post-COVID pain. ⋯ This study found that almost 25% of previously hospitalized COVID-19 survivors with "de novo" post-COVID pain reported a neuropathic pain component. The presence of neuropathic pain symptomatology was associated with more anxiety and kinesiophobia, but only kinesiophobia level was significantly associated explaining 12.8% of the variance of the S-LANSS score.

Awareness of Vaccination against Respiratory Tract Diseases, Including Pneumonia, Influenza, and COVID-19 in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus.
Patients with diabetes have an increased risk of severe acute respiratory infections, and vaccination is their life-saving option. This study aimed to investigate the interest and knowledge of patients about influenza, pneumonia, and COVID-19(coronavirus disease 2019) vaccines. Materials. ⋯ We examined the vaccine awareness of patients with diabetes and investigated factors affecting it. İt was determined that vaccination awareness is affected by many factors, especially comorbid diseases and educational status. The study showed that patients primarily relied on doctors as their source of information for vaccination. Doctor-centered vaccination promotion programmes can increase the rate of vaccination.
