The Association between Standardized Serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D Concentration and Risk of Anemia: A Population-Based Cross-Sectional Study.
The relationship between standardized serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) concentration and incident anemia in the United States (U. S.) is unclear. The purpose of our study was to examine the association between serum 25(OH)D and anemia risk. ⋯ S. general population. Serum 25(OH)D concentration in the range 59.7-70.3 nmol/l was associated with anemia incidence <1. Therefore, the risk of anemia can be reduced by close monitoring and appropriate vitamin D supplementation.

Anticoagulation Control in Older Atrial Fibrillation Patients Receiving Vitamin K Antagonist Therapy for Stroke Prevention.
Efficacy and safety of vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) among atrial fibrillation (AF) patients are enhanced when the International Normalised Ratio (INR) is 2.0-3.0. Anticoagulation control among older patients is perceived to be lower and contributes to poorer initiation and uptake. ⋯ Suboptimal (TTR and PINRR <70%) anticoagulation control was evident in all patients. Risk of bleeding increased, but there was no difference in thromboembolic events and all-cause mortality in those aged ≥80 years. Improving TTR to ≥70% and enhancing anticoagulation monitoring of VKA use remain a clinical priority to prevent bleeding complications, particularly among those aged 80 years and above.

The Relationship between Plasma Pentraxin 3 and Serum Amyloid P Levels and Disease Activity in Ankylosing Spondylitis.
In clinical practice, it is hard to judge the level of disease activity in some patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) who have low traditional acute phase reactant values such as erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) but have considerable pain and inflammation. The aim of this study is to investigate plasma pentraxin 3 (PTX3) and serum amyloid P (SAP) levels in patients with AS who had normal ESR and CRP but high disease activity. ⋯ In patients with AS, plasma levels of PTX3 and SAP were found to be elevated when compared to healthy controls. No association was observed between these biomarkers and disease activity.

Expression and Prognostic Value of PIK3CA, VEGF, IL-8, IL-10, and RIP2 in Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma.
To explore clinical features and prognostic value of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), interleukin (IL) 8, IL-10, phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate 3-kinase catalytic subunit alpha (PIK3CA), and receptor-interacting protein-2 (RIP2) in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). ⋯ The serum levels of VEGF, IL-8, and IL-10, as well as the expression of RIP2 and PIK3CA in tumor tissues, were highly correlated to clinical features of DLBCL, and high expression level of these indexes may have adverse effects for the prognosis of DLBCL patients.

Predictors for Intravenous Immunoglobulin Resistance in Patients with Kawasaki Disease.
Between 10 and 20% of Kawasaki disease (KD) patients are resistant to treatment with initial intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and have a high risk of developing coronary artery lesions. Some studies have been conducted to identify predictive factors. However, the results are controversial. This study aims to identify the risk factors for IVIG-resistant KD patients in a Chinese population. ⋯ Patients presenting with coronary artery lesions in the acute phase and elevated C-reactive protein levels before IVIG treatment might be a useful and important value for predicting IVIG resistance in KD. Risk assessment based on coronary artery lesions and C-reactive protein levels prior to the treatment may improve the outcome of IVIG resistance.
