Eosinophil Levels, Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio, and Platelet-Lymphocyte Ratio in the Cytokine Storm Period of Patients with COVID-19.
In the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, elevated inflammatory cytokine levels, particularly interleukin-6 (IL-6), were detected in patients with cytokine storm (CS). ⋯ In the light of the obtained results, COVID-19 patients with a decrease in lymphocyte levels and an increase in NLR and D-dimer levels and a history of CAD and DM have a higher risk of cytokine storm and mortality.

Early Change in Platelet Count and MPV Levels of Patients Who Received Hemodialysis for the First Time: Mogadishu Somalia Experience.
Mean platelet volume (MPV) is a marker used to assess the platelet' size and is also an indicator of platelet reactivity and prothrombotic status. ⋯ In our study, we found that increase in MPV and MPV/PLT levels was significant in the fourth HD session of patients with CKD. It is also debatable that there are findings indicating an increase in platelet reactivity in the first weeks of the onset of HD. This could be an early indicator of the early prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Effect of Glucocorticoid Administration in Intravenous Pulses on Selected Parameters of the Coagulation System.
Changes of the coagulation system are promoted by serious infectious or noninfectious diseases, surgical procedures, and exogenous substances, including drugs. This study aimed to assess the effect of methylprednisolone pulses on selected parameters of the coagulation system. ⋯ The glucocorticoids administered in the intravenous pulses of methylprednisolone shift the balance toward thromboembolic complications.

Changes in Renal Function in Patients with Recurrence of Atrial Arrhythmia after an Initial Catheter Ablation.
Impaired renal function and atrial fibrillation (AF) can form a vicious cycle. Although there have been reports on improved renal function in patients who undergo successful AF ablation, renal function in patients with recurrence of AF has not been studied separately. We explored the changes in renal function in recurrent AF patients after catheter ablation with mild renal dysfunction and the influencing factors. ⋯ In NVAF patients with mildly impaired renal function, even those with recurrence after the initial catheter ablation, we observed improvements in renal function, which was associated with a lower △CHA2DS2-VASc score and paroxysmal recurrent arrhythmia.

A Survey of Knowledge and Barriers of Healthcare Professionals toward Opioid Analgesics in Cancer Pain Management.
Pain is among the most frequent and troubling symptoms in cancer patients. Despite the availability of updated treatment guidelines and effective pharmacological therapies, undertreatment of cancer pain remains a global problem. Opioids are the mainstay analgesics to treat moderate-to-severe cancer pain. The goal of this study was to assess the knowledge and barriers towards opioid analgesics for cancer pain management among healthcare professionals in Oncology Units in Jordan. ⋯ This study revealed major gaps in the knowledge of opioids and pain management among healthcare professionals. There is an urgent need for developing innovative interventions to improve the knowledge of opioid analgesics and the understanding of pain management guidelines among healthcare professionals in Jordan.
