Health-Related Quality of Life and Coping Strategies in a Cohort Study of Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy Naïve Patients Adherence.
The main objective of this study was to describe the perceived quality of life (QoL) in patients living with AIDS (PLWA) and their chosen coping strategies in a cohort of individuals managed with HAART. ⋯ The present study revealed that the perceived QoL can be maintained in individuals treated for HIV/AIDS. There is an association between high score of coping strategies and adherence to HAART.

Biomarkers for Predicting the Occurrence and Progression of Atrial Fibrillation: Soluble Suppression of Tumorigenicity 2 Protein and Tissue Inhibitor of Matrix Metalloproteinase-1.
Soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 protein (sST2) and tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase (TIMP)-1 are involved in multiple pathogenic pathways, including cardiac remodeling, which is the main pathology of atrial fibrillation (AF). This study aims to investigate the previously unexplored relationship between the serum levels of sST2, TIMP-1, and AF. ⋯ In this cohort study, sST2 and TIMP-1 were associated with AF progression, independent of clinical characteristics and biomarkers. Soluble ST2 and TIMP-1 combined with age, elevated N-terminal-pro hormone BNP(NT-BNP), and an enlarged left atrium were able to demonstrate the progression of AF reliably.

Dilemma of Supra- or Infrapatellar Tibial Nailing: Anterior Knee Pain vs. Intra-Articular Damage.
Intramedullary nailing (IMN) is widely accepted as the treatment of choice for tibial fractures, and a suprapatellar method has been described to prevent common problems associated with the typical infrapatellar IMN technique, such as anterior knee pain. However, in the suprapatellar technique, injury to intra-articular structures is a concern. The aim of this study was to compare the clinical and radiological results of suprapatellar and infrapatellar IMN in terms of union, complications, and function. ⋯ If performed with sufficient expertise, the suprapatellar IMN technique is a safe, reliable technique with a low frequency of anterior knee pain for treating tibial fractures. There is no clear evidence that it causes damage to intra-articular structures. The possibility of patellofemoral cartilage degeneration due to this technique should be further evaluated by prospective studies including pre- and postoperative radiologic assessments.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the oxidant-antioxidant status, endothelial dysfunction, lipid metabolism, and metabolic syndrome risk in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). ⋯ Oxidative stress and decreased antioxidant parameters in PCOS patients were correlated with hyperinsulinemia, hypertension, and dyslipidemia findings, and we think that this oxidative stress condition may contribute to metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases in PCOS patients.

A Longitudinal Study of Stress in New Nurses in their First Year of Employment.
This study aimed to analyze changes in occupational stress in new nurses during the first year of employment. ⋯ New nurses had higher overall occupational stress during their first year of employment under different stressors. Therefore, nursing managers should actively focus on stress factors of new nurses and provide targeted interventions to help them during their training period.
