Effect moderators in internet-based exposure therapy for fibromyalgia: The role of pain intensity.
A recent randomized controlled trial (N = 140) was indicative of large and sustained average improvements of Internet-based exposure for fibromyalgia, as compared to a waitlist. However, little is known about who benefits the most from this treatment. ⋯ This study evaluated potential effect moderators in exposure-based treatment for fibromyalgia. Results indicated that a higher level of pain intensity at baseline was predictive of a less favourable outcome. It may be extra important to monitor progression for these patients and to provide additional therapeutic support when needed.

Persistent nonspecific back pain is now established as a biopsychosocial phenomenon that can be meaningfully affected by individuals' cognitions, emotions, lifestyle factors and family and social relationships. Recent guidelines for the treatment of adolescents with persistent nonspecific back pain, as well as those for youth with mixed chronic pain, strongly recommend interdisciplinary care in which adolescents receive treatment for both mind and body. The objective of this scoping review was to examine the interventions evaluated in randomized trials for adolescents with persistent back pain to determine whether they correspond to these guidelines and to reveal future research priorities. ⋯ This scoping review describes in detail the interventions included in randomized trials for adolescents with persistent, nonspecific back pain. The review is important because it reveals discrepancies between those interventions and the interventions recommended for this population.

Oral capsules of tetra-hydro-cannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD) and their combination in peripheral neuropathic pain treatment.
Cannabinoids are often prescribed for neuropathic pain, but the evidence-based recommendation is 'weak against'. ⋯ CBD, THC and their combination did not relieve peripheral neuropathic pain in patients failing at least one previous evidence-based treatment for neuropathic pain.

Early evidence suggests human assumed central sensitization (HACS) is present in some people with acute low back pain (LBP). Factors influencing individual variation in HACS during acute LBP have not been fully explored. We aimed to examine the evidence for HACS in acute LBP and the contribution of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), clinical, psychological and demographic factors to HACS. ⋯ Human assumed central sensitization (HACS) is present in acute low back pain (LBP) but factors contributing to individual variation are not fully explored. This study investigated the relationship between factors such as brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and HACS in acute LBP. Our findings indicate that HACS was present in specific LBP subgroups but BDNF was unrelated to HACS. Combinations of BDNF genotype, demographic and psychological factors explained a small proportion of the variation in sensory measures during acute LBP.
