Neuromuscular variations in the gluteal region - Embryological basis and clinical significance.
Piriformis, is a key muscle in the gluteal region. Under its lower border sciatic nerve and inferior gluteal nerves exit. During routine educational dissection of the lower limb, bilateral gluteal regions in fifteen cadavers (30 gluteal regions) focusing on the variations of inferior gluteal nerve and sciatic nerve with respect to piriformis muscle were observed in the department of anatomy, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India. ⋯ But in another cadaver, there was a similar variation of the sciatic nerve bilaterally. Inferior gluteal and sciatic nerves, when compressed by muscle belly or tendinous slips of the piriformis muscle, may cause lurching gait and sciatica respectively. Knowledge of the different variations of these peripheral nerves with respect to the piriformis muscle is important to clinicians and surgeons for the accurate diagnosis and intervention.

Randomized Controlled TrialAwake fiberoptic intubation in patients with stenosis of the upper airways: Utility of the laryngeal nerve block.
Awake fiberoptic intubation (AFOI) is mandatory to manage difficult airways. Superior laryngeal nerve block (SLNB) could reduce risks and improve patient comfort. The aim of this study is to assess the procedural comfort of SLNB during AFOI in a population of patients undergoing upper airway oncological surgery. ⋯ Intubation was faster in L-SLNB (47.45 ±15.38 sec) than S-SLNB (80.15 ±37.91 sec) (p <0.001). The SLNB procedure during AFOI is a safe and comfortable procedure in a population of patients undergoing upper airways surgery. Time to intubation was shorter in L-SLNB than in S-SLNB.

Emergency Contraception: are the rights to conscience and to reproductive freedom irreconcilable?
Emergency Contraception (EC) has been gaining attention for its controversial nature, from the ethical, moral and religious perspectives. Objecting health professionals feel that the implementation of certain procedures or the prescription of some drugs would engender a conflict of conscience. That is also true in the context of reproductive medicine and not only limited to EC, but including abortion and some medically-assisted procreation procedures; all such procedures have created a rift between sexuality and procreation that has substantial ethical complexities. ⋯ In fact, any form of conscientious objection that could harm patient well-being should be allowed only if the fundamental duty towards patients can be effectively discharged. The right to thorough and unbiased information is crucial so as to enable patients to make well-informed decisions. Moreover, as the WHO has remarked, access to safe and legal reproductive services should be fostered particularly in at-risk, resource-poor areas.

Case ReportsCOVID-19 emergency in the cruise's ship: a case report of conjunctivitis.
Little is known about the Covid-19 transmission through ocular tissue, and more research needs to be carried out in order to confirm its ability to infect ocular tissue and its pathogenic mechanisms. Covid-19 may be detected in the tears and conjunctival secretions in novel coronavirus pneumonia patients with conjunctivitis. This case report shows a severe viral conjunctivitis in a patient diagnosed with Covid-19 on the Diamond Princess ship, characterized by both red, irritated and swollen eyes, with transparent serous secretions, conjunctival chemosis, pseudomembranes of fibrin and inflammatory cells on the tarsal conjunctiva accompanied by preauricular lymph nodes and enlarged submaxillaries.

Review Case ReportsA rare clinical entity: stump appendicitis. Case report and complete review of literature.
Stump appendicitis is a rare delayed complication post-appendectomy and it represents a diagnostic problem as clinicians are often not very familiar with this pathology. ⋯ The aim of this article is to underline the importance of stump appendicitis. Clinicians should be aware of the possibility of SA and they should confirm any clinical suspicion throughout radiologic images, in order to promptly recognize this entity and to avoid the related complications.
