A short-term longitudinal examination of the relations between depression, anhedonia, and self-injurious thoughts and behaviors in adults with a history of self-injury.
Limited research has addressed the role of anhedonia in predicting suicidality and/or nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) in adults, despite evidence suggesting that loss of interest or pleasure may increase vulnerability for self-inflicted harm, even beyond other depressive symptoms. ⋯ Results confirm the relation between anhedonia and suicidality evidenced in past research, but suggest a complex relationship between anhedonia, depression, and facets of non-suicidal self-injury.

Body plasticity in borderline personality disorder: A link to dissociation.
Patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) often report an unstable sense of self, which is further enhanced in dissociative states. As one consequence, BPD patients show a labile body percept, which might result in a higher degree of body plasticity. However, experimental data on body plasticity in BPD are not yet available. ⋯ The results provide initial empirical evidence for significant alterations in body ownership processing associated with a current BPD diagnosis, resulting in enhanced body plasticity. Dissociation significantly correlated with illusory limb ownership experiences, making body plasticity a marker for BPD.

Comparative StudyExecutive function in fibromyalgia: Comparing subjective and objective measures.
There is evidence to suggest the existence of an executive dysfunction in people diagnosed with fibromyalgia, although there are certain inconsistencies between studies. Here, we aim to compare executive performance between patients with fibromyalgia and a control group by using subjective and objective cognitive tests, analyzing the influence of patient mood on the results obtained, and studying associations between the two measures. ⋯ Patients with fibromyalgia showed executive dysfunction in subjective and objective measures, although most of this impairment was associated with mood disturbances. Exceptions to this general rule were observed in the impairment of working memory evidenced on the BRIEF-A scale and the inhibition impairment exhibited by the interference effect from the Stroop Test. The two types of measurement provide different yet complementary information.

Observational StudyPrevalence and symptomatic correlates of interpersonal trauma in South Korean outpatients with major depressive disorder.
There is growing evidence that exposure to severe interpersonal trauma (IPT) has a pivotal role in the development and manifestation of depression. However, it is not clearly understood whether patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) have specifically increased prevalence of IPT than other non-interpersonal traumatic events and whether those with IPT have unique symptom profile within depressed groups. In this study, we investigated the prevalence of past traumatic events and symptomatic features of treatment-seeking outpatients with MDD. ⋯ Clinicians managing individuals with depressive disorder need to include the assessment of lifetime IPT and its impact on presenting symptoms.

Relapses and recurrences of catatonia: 30-case analysis and literature review.
Relieving catatonia helps identify the underlying etiology and its treatment. However, catatonia may reemerge after some time, but there are few data on the relapses and recurrences of catatonia. We aimed to investigate the characteristics of patients with relapses or recurrences of catatonia as well as the efficacy of the lorazepam-diazepam protocol on them. ⋯ The lorazepam-diazepam protocol was mostly effective in managing relapses and recurrences of catatonia. Maintenance clozapine and oral lorazepam were beneficial in a significant number of patients.
