Multicenter StudyQuality of life in major depressive disorder: the role of pain and pain catastrophizing cognition.
Pain symptoms are frequent complaints in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). Although it is known that pain intensity and pain-related cognition predict quality of life (QOL) in patients with chronic pain, limited studies have examined their roles in MDD. The study aimed to determine whether pain and pain catastrophizing were independent predictors of QOL in MDD after accounting for the impact of anxiety and depression. ⋯ The study supports the specific role of pain and pain-related cognition in predicting QOL in depressed patients. Further studies targeting pain-related cognition for improving the outcome of MDD are necessary.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyReliability and validity of the Korean version of the Impact of Event Scale-Revised.
The aim of this study was to explore the reliability and validity of the Impact of Event Scale-Revised Korean version (IES-R-K), a self-report scale for assessment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). ⋯ The IES-R-K showed good reliability and validity for the assessment of PTSD symptom severity. The IES-R-K is a useful instrument for assessing PTSD symptoms in Korea.

Multicenter StudyDéjà vu experiences in patients with schizophrenia.
To investigate whether déjà vu experiences are psychopathologic phenomena, we studied the frequency and characteristics of déjà vu experiences in patients with schizophrenia. One hundred thirteen patients with schizophrenia and 386 nonclinical control subjects were evaluated with the Inventory of Déjà vu Experiences Assessment. The frequency and features of déjà vu experiences were compared between the 2 groups. ⋯ They appeared to have the experiences under unpleasant mental or physical states. Their déjà vu experiences are not primarily different in nature from those of the nonclinical subjects. The decreased frequency of the experiences in the patients may suggest déjà vu experiences as nonpathologic phenomena.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialThree dimensions of depression in patients with acute psychotic disorders: a replication study.
Depressive symptoms in psychotic disorders are of high relevance but seem to be heterogeneous when assessed with a standard rating scale. The present analysis is a replication study on the dimensionality of the Bech-Rafaelsen Melancholia Scale (BRMES) in acutely psychotic patients with substantial depression defined according to a functional approach across the nosological borders of schizophrenia with major affective symptoms, schizoaffective disorder, depressed subtype, and major depression with psychotic features. The baseline data of 123 patients participating in a multicenter pharmacological trial were evaluated with structural equation models. ⋯ The three-dimensional model proved to be superior to one-, two-, or four-factor models with respect to goodness-of-fit (goodness-of-fit index [GFI] = 0.91 and comparative fit index [CFI] = 0.89) and parsimony (adjusted GFI [AGFI] = 0.85). When comparing the present model with the previously reported model, a highly satisfactory correspondence emerged (CFI = 0.87). The results corroborate our previous findings that depression-like symptoms in acutely psychotic patients assessed by the BRMES can best be represented by a three-dimensional model and should not be treated as a homogeneous syndrome.
