Multicenter StudyAssociation of right atrial structure with incident atrial fibrillation: a longitudinal cohort cardiovascular magnetic resonance study from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA).
While studies of the left atrium (LA) have demonstrated associations between volumes and emptying fraction with atrial fibrillation (AF), the contribution of right atrial (RA) abnormalities to incident AF remains poorly understood. ⋯ In a large multiethnic population, higher RA volume indices were independently associated with incident AF after adjustment for conventional cardiovascular risk factors and LA parameters. It is unclear if this predictive value persists when additional adjustment is made for ventricular parameters.

Multicenter Study Observational StudySize of carotid artery intraplaque hemorrhage and acute ischemic stroke: a cardiovascular magnetic resonance Chinese atherosclerosis risk evaluation study.
To determine the usefulness of the size of carotid artery intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH) in discriminating the risk of acute ischemic stroke using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) vessel wall imaging. ⋯ In symptomatic patients with carotid atherosclerotic plaques, the size of IPH is independently associated with ipsilateral ACI, suggesting the size of IPH might be a useful indicator for the risk of ACI.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyAntecedent hypertension and myocardial injury in patients with reperfused ST-elevation myocardial infarction.
Antecedent hypertension is associated with poor outcome in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Whether differences in myocardial salvage, infarct size and microvascular injury contribute to the adverse outcome is unknown. We investigated the association between antecedent hypertension and cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) parameters of myocardial salvage and damage in a multicenter CMR substudy of the AIDA-STEMI trial (Abciximab Intracoronary versus intravenously Drug Application in ST-elevation myocardial infarction). ⋯ Despite a higher rate of MACE in contemporary reperfused STEMI patients with antecedent hypertension, there was no difference in reperfusion efficacy, infarct size and reperfusion injury as visualized by CMR.

Multicenter StudyFree-breathing myocardial T2* mapping using GRE-EPI and automatic non-rigid motion correction.
Measurement of myocardial T2* is becoming widely used in the assessment of patients at risk for cardiac iron overload. The conventional breath-hold, ECG-triggered, segmented, multi-echo gradient echo (MGRE) sequence used for myocardial T2* quantification is very sensitive to respiratory motion and may not be feasible in patients who are unable to breath-hold. We propose a free-breathing myocardial T2* mapping approach that combines a single-shot gradient-echo echo-planar imaging (GRE-EPI) sequence for T2*-weighted image acquisition with automatic non-rigid motion correction (MOCO) of respiratory motion between single-shot images. ⋯ The free-breathing approach described for T2* mapping using MOCO GRE-EPI enables accurate myocardial and liver T2* measurements and is insensitive to respiratory motion.

Multicenter StudyUse of a 1.0 Tesla open scanner for evaluation of pediatric and congenital heart disease: a retrospective cohort study.
Open cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) scanners offer the potential for imaging patients with claustrophobia or large body size, but at a lower 1.0 Tesla magnetic field. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of open CMR for evaluation of pediatric and congenital heart disease. ⋯ Open 1.0 Tesla scanners can effectively evaluate pediatric and congenital heart disease, including patients with claustrophobia and larger body size. Despite minor artifacts and differences in SNR and CNR, the majority of clinical questions can be answered adequately, with some limitations with coronary artery imaging. Further evaluation is necessary to optimize protocols and image quality.
