Hereditary periodic (fever) syndromes, also called autoinflammatory syndromes, are characterized by relapsing fever and additional manifestations such as skin rashes, mucosal manifestations, or joint symptoms. Some of these disorders present with organ involvement and serological signs of inflammation without fever. There is a strong serological inflammatory response with an elevation of serum amyloid A (SAA), resulting in an increased risk of secondary amyloidosis. ⋯ Therapeutically, above all, the IL-1 receptor antagonist anakinra is used. In case of TRAPS and PGA, TNF-antagonists (etanercept) may also be used; in FMF colchicine is first choice. As additional possible autoinflammatory syndromes, PFAPA syndrome (periodic fever with aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis and adenitis), Schnitzler syndrome, Still's disease of adult and pediatric onset, Behçet disease, gout, chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO) and Crohn's disease also are mentioned.

Linear IgA bullous dermatosis is an acquired autoimmune subepidermal blistering disease, characterized by linear IgA deposits at the basement membrane zone. Described in both children and adults, it occurs as tense pruritic vesicles and bullae in a "cluster of jewels" configuration with central crusting on an inflammatory elevated base. ⋯ Whilst the adult manifestations can be chronic, in children a spontaneous remission has often been reported. Our patient showed a spontaneous remission after 8 weeks of symptomatic topic treatment with methylprednisolone and oral cetirizine dihydrochloride.

Assessment of benefits and quality of medical healthcare treatment is becoming more and more important. In order to accurately carry out this assessment and to assure a reliable planning of health care, valid data are needed. ⋯ In order to obtain information on the health care for skin and allergic diseases the German Center for Health Services in Dermatology (CVderm) was founded in 2005. It is actively involved in the coordination and conducation of health care, collaborating with other university groups.
