Multicenter StudyHow and when human chorionic gonadotropin curves in women with an ectopic pregnancy mimic other outcomes: differences by race and ethnicity.
To investigate the hCG profiles in a diverse patient group with ectopic pregnancy (EP) and to understand when they may mimic the curves of an intrauterine pregnancy (IUP) or spontaneous abortion (SAB). ⋯ The rate of change in serial hCG values can be used to distinguish EP from an IUP or SAB in only 73% of cases. The number of women who had a change in direction of serial hCG values was associated with race and ethnicity.

Comparative StudyA comparison of the effects of N-acetylcysteine and ethyl pyruvate on experimental testicular ischemia-reperfusion injury.
To compare the effects of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and ethyl pyruvate (EP) on experimental testicular ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. ⋯ Both NAC and EP, the effects of which on I/R injury are evaluated in the present study, reduce such injury in testicular torsion-detorsion. Comparing their effects on IMA levels, NAC may be regarded as a relatively more effective treatment than EP.

Role of microRNA-21 and programmed cell death 4 in the pathogenesis of human uterine leiomyomas.
To determine whether programmed cell death 4 (PDCD-4) is altered in autologous leiomyoma and myometrial tissues and what microRNA-21's (miR-21) role is in PDCD-4 expression, apoptosis, and translation. ⋯ Elevated leiomyoma miR-21 levels are predicted to decrease PDCD-4 levels, thus leiomyomas differ from other tumors where loss of PDCD-4 is associated with tumor progression. Our studies indicate regulation of PDCD-4 expression is not a primary miR-21 function in leiomyomas, but instead miR-21 is able to impact cellular apoptosis and translation, through unknown targets, in a manner consistent with its involvement in the pathophysiology of uterine fibroids.

Review Meta Analysis Comparative StudyObstetric and perinatal outcomes in singleton pregnancies resulting from the transfer of frozen thawed versus fresh embryos generated through in vitro fertilization treatment: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of obstetric and perinatal complications in singleton pregnancies after the transfer of frozen thawed and fresh embryos generated through IVF. ⋯ Although fresh ET is the norm in IVF, results of this systematic review of observational studies suggest that pregnancies arising from the transfer of frozen thawed IVF embryos seem to have better obstetric and perinatal outcomes.

Diagnostic evaluation of the infertile female: a committee opinion.
Diagnostic evaluation for infertility in women should be conducted in a systematic, expeditious, and cost-effective manner to identify all relevant factors with initial emphasis on the least invasive methods for detection of the most common causes of infertility. The purpose of this Committee Opinion is to provide a critical review of the current methods and procedures for the evaluation of the infertile female, and it replaces the 2006 ASRM Practice Committee document titled "Optimal evaluation of the infertile female."
