Prophylactic intraoperative uterine artery embolization to control hemorrhage in abnormal placentation during late gestation.
To determine whether prophylactic intraoperative uterine artery embolization (UAE) reduces blood loss and minimizes morbidity and mortality in cases of placenta accreta, increta, and percreta. ⋯ Prophylactic, intraoperative UAE before placental expulsion appears to reduce the risk of postpartum hemorrhage, decrease morbidity and mortality, and increase the chance of preservation of the uterus in patients with placenta accreta, increta, and percreta.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyIbuprofen and paracetamol for pain relief during medical abortion: a double-blind randomized controlled study.
To determine the efficacy of a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug vs. paracetamol in pain relief during medical abortion and to evaluate whether nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs interfere with the action of misoprostol. ⋯ Ibuprofen was found to be more effective than paracetamol for pain reduction during medical abortion. A history of surgical or medical abortion was predictive for high pain scores. Despite its anti-prostaglandin effects, ibuprofen use did not interfere with the action of misoprostol.

Comparative StudyHigher metabolic risk in Chinese women fulfilling the NIH diagnostic criteria for polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Only about 63% of Chinese women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) as diagnosed by the 2003 Rotterdam criteria fulfilled the 1990 National Institutes of Health (NIH) diagnostic criteria. Although the NIH criteria are not generally applicable to the Chinese population, women fulfilling the NIH criteria have higher metabolic risk than those who do not and so carry the most clinical significance.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyCost-saving treatment strategies in in vitro fertilization: a combined economic evaluation of two large randomized clinical trials comparing highly purified human menopausal gonadotropin and recombinant follicle-stimulating hormone alpha.
To assess the cost-effectiveness of two gonadotropin treatments that are available in the United Kingdom in light of limited public funding and the fundamental role of costs in IVF treatment decisions. ⋯ Treatment with HP-hMG was dominant compared with rFSH in the United Kingdom. Gonadotropin costs should be considered alongside live-birth rates to optimize outcomes using scarce health-care resources.

Case ReportsLaparoscopic management of heterotopic cesarean scar pregnancy with preservation of intrauterine gestation and delivery at term: case report.
To present a case of laparoscopic removal of a heterotopic cesarean scar pregnancy under ultrasound guidance. ⋯ Surgical removal of the ectopic mass by laparoscopy may be a radical approach in cases of heterotopic cesarean scar pregnancy. Laparoscopic excision of the cesarean scar pregnancy gives the opportunity to preserve the viable intrauterine gestation while maintaining a strong lower uterine segment. Ultrasound is an adjunctive tool that enables precise location of the ectopic mass during the operation.
