Development and validation of the Infertility Self-Efficacy scale.
To develop and validate a scale of perceived self-efficacy for people coping with infertility treatment. ⋯ The ISE scale appears to be a reliable and valid measure of an individual's self confidence in areas related to health promotion during infertility treatment. Assessing an infertility patients' self-efficacy with the ISE may be useful in clinical research and as a counseling tool to help guide patients in actively managing their fertility treatment.

Professional self-regulation for preimplantation genetic diagnosis: experience of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and other professional societies.
Professional societies that are stakeholders in preimplantation genetic diagnosis have democratically elected officers and favor self-regulation. Their practice guidelines are cognizant of societal needs and allow for introduction of new technologies. These societies have demonstrated the ability for professional self-regulation by collection, validation, and promulgation of center-specific results.

Congenital malformations among 911 newborns conceived after infertility treatment with letrozole or clomiphene citrate.
To evaluate the incidence of congenital malformations among offspring of mothers who conceived with clomiphene citrate (CC) or with letrozole treatment for infertility. ⋯ There was no difference in the overall rates of major and minor congenital malformations among newborns from mothers who conceived after letrozole or CC treatments. However, it appears that congenital cardiac anomaly is less frequent in the letrozole group. The concern that letrozole use for ovulation induction could be teratogenic is unfounded based on our data.

Most randomized controlled trials are small relative to the clinical question they address, and chance causes more variability in the results of small trials. Thus, when small studies herald new treatment interventions, clinicians might wish to wait until the body of evidence is weighty and consistent enough to be convincing.

Case ReportsFirst successful pregnancy outcome after preimplantation genetic diagnosis for aneuploidy screening in embryos generated from natural-cycle in vitro fertilization combined with an in vitro maturation procedure.
To report on the first successful pregnancy performing preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) on embryos obtained after combining natural IVF with in vitro maturation procedure. ⋯ This case report demonstrates that an acceptable number of embryos can be generated after in vitro maturation procedure to perform PGD for aneuploidy screening and that this approach can be extended to patients with polycystic ovaries or polycystic ovary syndrome who are undergoing PGD for other genetic diseases.
