Knockdown of long non-coding RNA RMRP protects cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury via the microRNA-613/ATG3 axis and the JAK2/STAT3 pathway.
Cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury can induce the mitophagy of neurons in the ischemic brain. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play an important role in the pathogenesis of various injuries, especially in cerebral I/R injury. The purpose of this study is to investigate the molecular mechanism of lncRNA RNA component of mitochondrial RNA processing endoribonuclease (RMRP) in cerebral I/R injury. ⋯ RMRP knockdown promoted viability and inhibited apoptosis of OGD/R-treated N2a cells, which could be reversed by miR-613 inhibition or ATG3 overexpression. RMRP overexpression inhibited the activation of JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway. We demonstrated that lncRNA RMRP competitively bound to miR-613, leading to the increase of ATG3 expression and the inhibition the JAK2/STAT3 pathway, thus promoting cerebral I/R injury in mice.

Survey on perceived work stress and its influencing factors among hospital staff during the COVID-19 pandemic in Taiwan.
This study aimed to investigate the perceived work stress and its influencing factors among hospital staff during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Taiwan. A web-based survey was conducted at one medical center and two regional hospitals in southern Taiwan, targeting physicians, nurses, medical examiners, and administrators. The questionnaire included items on the demographic characteristics of hospital staff and a scale to assess stress among healthcare workers caring for patients with a highly infectious disease. ⋯ The five highest stress scores were observed for the items "rough and cracked hands due to frequent hand washing and disinfectant use," "inconvenience in using the toilet at work," "restrictions on eating and drinking at work," "fear of transmitting the disease to relatives and friends," and "fear of being infected with COVID-19." Discomfort caused by protective equipment was the major stressor for the participants, followed by burden of caring for patients. Among participants who experienced severe stress (n = 129), work stress was higher among those with rather than without minor children. The present findings may serve as a reference for future monitoring of hospital staff's workload, and may aid the provision of support and interventions.

ReviewReview of the present features and the infection control challenges of COVID-19 pandemic in dialysis facilities.
The COVID-19 has swept the world causing suffering, death, loss, and massive economy damage. The dialysis population is vulnerable and the dialysis facility is critical in maintaining operations and avoiding disease transmission. ⋯ Leadership, education, preparedness, management, and recovery phase were determined to be the critical procedures. It is hoped this updated interim review might provide information for medical professionals to take proactive action to best prepare and mitigate damage when facing the COVID-19 pandemic challenge.
