Case ReportsTracheostomy tube ignition during microlaryngeal surgery using diode laser: a case report.
Ignition of the tracheal tube during laser microlaryngeal surgery under general anesthesia is an uncommon complication with potentially serious consequences. We present here a case of a patient with glottic stenosis following endotracheal intubation, who experienced this potentially catastrophic combustion during endoscopic arytenoidectomy, using a diode laser under general anesthesia via 60% FiO2, with an airway fire occurring at the tracheostomy tube and causing tubal damage and obstruction. ⋯ No adverse consequences to this patient's upper airway were noted during follow-up visits. Higher oxygen concentrations, the presence of combustibles, and the narrowness of the surgical field during endolaryngeal diode laser surgery are risk factors for airway fires.

Case ReportsPneumorrhachis following lumbar puncture: a case report.
We report a rare case of pneumorrhachis following lumbar puncture. A 4-year-old boy was admitted to our hospital with seizures following a head injury and upper respiratory infection. Lumbar puncture was performed to rule out central nervous system infection. ⋯ In a follow-up CT scan 3 days later, the pneumorrhachis resolved spontaneously. Pneumorrhachis following diagnostic lumbar puncture is an extremely rare condition. We discuss pneumorrhachis and review cases in the literature.

Case ReportsDelayed postpartum hemorrhage--a rare clinical presentation of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura-hemolytic uremic syndrome: a case report.
Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) and hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) are rare and closely related disorders characterized by microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and renal failure. Many risk factors have been reported including infection, cancer, pregnancy, a variety of drugs (e.g. anticancer drugs), and autoimmune diseases. ⋯ Review of the literature reveals that delayed postpartum hemorrhage is a rare clinical presentation of TTP-HUS. We report a case of TTP-HUS with recurrent delayed postpartum hemorrhage and dismal outcome.

Case ReportsBasal cell carcinoma of the nipple-areola complex: a case report.
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) of the nipple-areola complex is very rare. Only 24 cases were reported in the literature and 17 (70.8%) of these cases arose in men. ⋯ Metastasis to the axillary lymph nodes had been noted in 3 (12.5%) of the 24 reported cases of BCC of the nipple-areola complex. Thus, we applied the concept of the sentinel lymph node to detect possible metastases of axillary lymph nodes, letting us avoid the unnecessary axillary lymph node dissection and possible future morbidity.

Effect of acupressure on nausea, vomiting, anxiety and pain among post-cesarean section women in Taiwan.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of acupressure for controlling post-cesarean section (CS) symptoms, such as nausea and vomiting, anxiety perception and pain perception. A total of 104 eligible participants were recruited by convenience sampling of operating schedules at two hospitals. Participants assigned to the experimental group received acupressure, and those assigned to the control group received only postoperative nursing instruction. ⋯ Results indicated that the experimental group had significantly lower anxiety and pain perception of cesarean experiences than the control group. Significant differences were found in all physiologic indices between the two groups. In conclusion, the utilization of acupressure treatment to promote the comfort of women during cesarean delivery is strongly recommended.
