Usefulness of mid-regional pro-adrenomedullin for stratifying risk in emergency department patients with solid tumors attended for febrile neutropenia secondary to chemotherapy.
To analyze the usefulness of mean mid-regional pro-adrenomedullin (MR-proADM) level to stratify risk in emergency department patients with solid tumors attended for febrile neutropenia after chemotherapy. To compare risk prediction with MR-proADM to that of conventional biomarkers and scores on the Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) score. ⋯ Risk stratification in cancer patients with febrile neutropenia is essential for decision-making in the ED. MR-proADM was the best predictor of serious complications in these patients, and combining it with any of the other variables did not improve prediction.

To develop a Metabolic Derangement Score (MDS) based on parameters available after initial testing and assess the score's ability to predict survival after out-of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and the likely usefulness of extracorporeal life support (ECLS). ⋯ The MDS we developed predicts prognosis in patients with OHCA and identifies patients who could benefit from ECLS.

Multicenter study of adolescent suicide attempts by poisoning: social, epidemiological, and clinical characteristics.
To evaluate the social, epidemiological, and clinical characteristics of patients brought to Spanish pediatric emergency departments (EDs) after suicide attempts by poisoning. A secondary objective was to identify risk factors for moderate-severe poisoning. ⋯ Pediatric ED visits for suicide attempts by poisoning occur mainly in adolescent girls, and a majority have a medical history of a psychiatric diagnosis, prior suicide attempts, or self-harm behaviors. They have also often experienced bullying. Characteristics that distinguish patients with moderate-severe poisoning are the presence of an adjustment disorder and the use of opioids and antidiabetic drugs, which confer risk for greater severity.
