We analyzed CT characteristics of radiographic ice ball according to anatomical location and freezing number in renal cryoablation. ⋯ In renal cryoablation, evaluating radiographic ice ball helps identify potential postulated cold sink effect in the central portion of kidney. Advances in knowledge: Radiologic information of postulated cold sink effect in the kidney may help secure sufficient safety margins.

To evaluate low-tube-voltage 90-kVp CT pulmonary angiography (CTPA) with advanced modeled iterative reconstruction algorithm (Admire) compared to 120-kVp equivalent dual-energy (DE) acquisition with regards to radiation exposure, image quality and diagnostic accuracy for pulmonary embolism (PE) assessment. ⋯ 90-kVp CTPA with Admire provided increased quantitative image quality with similar diagnostic accuracy and confidence for PE assessment compared to 120-kVp equivalent acquisition, while radiation dose was reduced by 37.2%. Advances in knowledge: 90-kVp CTPA with an advanced iterative reconstruction algorithm results in excellent image quality and reduction of radiation exposure without limiting diagnostic performance.

To prospectively evaluate the incidence of nausea and vomiting after exposure to non-ionic iodinated contrast media (ICM), and to identify potential risk factors, with a focus on fasting duration for solid food and fluids, separately. ⋯ Mild nausea occurred in 2.9% of patients and none vomited in our study population with a 6 h preparatory fast from solid food. Many patients underwent excessive fasting for fluids as well as solid food and their fasting durations were not associated with nausea. Advances in knowledge: We firstly evaluated fasting durations for solid food and fluids, and their impacts on vomiting or nausea after ICM exposure with an instruction of 6 h preparatory fast for solid food: many patients underwent excessive fasting for fluids and the fasting duration was unrelated to nausea.

To assess the efficacy of uterine artery embolization (UAE) for the management of primary postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) and to determine the factors associated with clinical outcomes especially in relation to the ovarian artery. ⋯ The clinical success rate was 85% (28/33), and some PPH patients were thought to need ovarian artery embolization in addition to UAE. Advances in knowledge: Initial aortography before UAE may be useful to predict the failure of UAE and the need of ovarian artery embolization. Obvious ovarian arterial blood flow to the uterus by aortography could be a warning sign.

The purpose of this study was to examine whether the combined use of MR diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) parameters [DTI-apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), fractional anisotropy (FA), axial diffusivity (AD), and radial diffusivity (RD)] could provide a more accurate diagnosis in differentiating between low-grade and atypical/anaplastic (high-grade) meningioma. ⋯ This study shows that combined MR DTI parameters consisting of ADCmin, RD, and FA can differentiate high-grade from low-grade meningioma with a diagnostic accuracy of 96.2%. Advances in knowledge: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study reporting that a combined use of all MR DTI parameters provides higher diagnostic accuracy for the differentiation of low- from high-grade meningioma. Our study shows that any of the model combinations was superior to use of any individual MR DTI parameters for differentiation between low and high-grade meningioma. A combination of ADCmin, RD, and FA was found to be the best model for differentiating low-grade from high-grade meningioma and sensitivity, specificity, and AUC values were found to be 92.3%, 100%, and 0.96, respectively. Thus, a combination of MR DTI parameters can provide more accurate diagnostic information when differentiation between low and high-grade meningioma.
