Effect of boric acid on cartilage formation of osteochondral defects in rabbit knee: An experimental study.
The present study aimed to investigate the healing of articular cartilage with boric acid (BA) injection in an experimental cartilage defect model of rabbit knee. ⋯ The healing process of the cartilage injury could be improved by BA injection administration. In future, BA may safely be used as an additional treatment modality in clinical practice to enhance the healing process of cartilage injuries, which are commonly observed orthopedic problem.

Effects of short-term hyperoxic ventilation on lung, kidney, heart, and liver in a rat model: A biochemical evaluation.
Despite studies on the adverse effects of hyperoxia, its use is still recommended by the World Health Organization. The aim of this study was to test the possible harmful effects of hyperoxia on the lung, kidney, heart, and liver in a rat mechanical ventilation model. ⋯ Mechanical ventilation with hyperoxia seems to have almost similar effects compared to ventilation with normoxia. However, the long term effect of hyperoxia should be evaluated.

The comparison of tracheostomy and translaryngeal intubation regarding free radical formation and pulmonary effects.
Our aim in this study was to compare the blood gas changes, the malondialdehyde (MDA) and endogenous antioxidant glutathione (GSH) levels in blood and lung tissues after ischemia/reperfusion, the histopathological damage in lung tissue in rats provided respiratory support with mechanical ventilation after translaryngeal intubation and tracheostomy. ⋯ This is the first study to show tracheostomy to be more advantageous than translaryngeal intubation in terms of blood gases, ischemia/reperfusion damage, and structural changes in the lung tissue.
