Comparison of pre-PICU and per-PICU interventions, clinical features and neurologic outcomes of motor vehicle collision trauma and other mechanisms of trauma in children.
Motor vehicle collisions (MVCs) are the number one cause of death in the pediatric age group. The aim of this study was to determine the differences between MVCs and other trauma mechanisms (OTMs) in patients who were followed up at a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). ⋯ MVCs lead to more multiple trauma cases than OTMs. Invasive mechanical ventilation, inotropes, and other inten-sive care interventions were necessary much more often in MVC victims than in OTM patients.

The effects of carbogen and hyperbaric oxygen treatment on fracture healing in rats.
Bone fractures and fracture healing are one of the most common problems among orthopedic surgeons. In this study, we investigated the effects of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) and carbogen (C) treatment on fracture healing in the experimental animal model. ⋯ There are many studies in the literature that examine the systemic and local effects of HBO and C treatments and show that they increase tissue oxygenation. Our study showed that HBO and C groups had no beneficial or harmful effects on fracture healing compared to the control group.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused over 1.75 million deaths in the world to date. Although the leading cause of mortality is respiratory disorders and thromboembolic pathologies, other rare pathologies may also increase mortality and morbidity. In our study, we aimed to examine life-threatening hematomas, risk factors, and management during COVID-19. ⋯ Hematomas are rare, but mortality increasing phenomena in COVID-19 patients. Age, male gender, severe or critical COVID-19 disease, comorbidities, and treatment dose of LMWH may be risk factors. New onset of abdominal/back pain and ecchymotic skin lesions may be signs of bleeding in this patient group. Mortality can be reduced by early diagnosis of hematoma and interventional methods.

The predictive value of ischemia-modified albumin in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis: A prospective case-control study.
Surgical planning is critical for ongoing treatment and prognosis of the disease's course after an appendicitis diag-nosis. Ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) has been used as a biomarker for a variety of ischemia-related disorders in the past. The aim of this study is to determine the IMA level in patients with AA and to evaluate its predictive significance. ⋯ Our study shows that IMA values provide significant results in predicting acute appendicitis.

Role of thiol-disulfide hemostasis in early diagnosis of acute mesentery ischemia: An experimental study.
Acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) is a rarely observed acute abdominal disease that may be mortal and is difficult to diagnose early. The aim of our study is to assess the role of Thiol-Disulphide Haemostasis (TDH), a new method for AMI which still has no specific biochemical markers for early diagnosis, and to assess it together with Ischemia-Modified Albumin (IMA) which has previously proven reliability for AMI. ⋯ TDH changes in the early period of AMI. The TDH parameters can be used with IMA as diagnostic parameters for patients with suspected AMI in the early period.
