Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Randomized Phase III trial of gefitinib versus docetaxel in non-small cell lung cancer patients who have previously received platinum-based chemotherapy.
The ISTANA (IRESSA as Second-line Therapy in Advanced NSCLC-KoreA) study compared gefitinib with docetaxel in patients with advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) pretreated with platinum-based chemotherapy. ⋯ The primary endpoint of progression-free survival was longer with gefitinib than docetaxel, and the secondary endpoints showed superior objective response rate, good tolerability, and similar quality of life improvement rates for gefitinib than docetaxel. Therefore, gefitinib is an important valid treatment option for second-line therapy for Korean NSCLC patients.

Multicenter Study
Phase II trial of tremelimumab (CP-675,206) in patients with advanced refractory or relapsed melanoma.
This phase II study assessed the antitumor activity of tremelimumab, a fully human, anti-CTL-associated antigen 4 monoclonal antibody, in patients with melanoma. ⋯ Tremelimumab showed an objective response rate of 6.6%, with all responses being durable > or =170 days since enrollment, suggesting a potential role for tremelimumab in melanoma.
