Effect of hyperbaric oxygen and ozone preconditioning on oxidative/nitrosative stress induced by tourniquet ischemia/reperfusion in rat skeletal muscle.
The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of hyperbaric oxygen-preconditioning (HBO-PC) and ozone-preconditioning (O3-PC) on oxidative/nitrosative stress induced by tourniquet ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) in rat skeletal muscle. ⋯ Both O3-PC and HBO-PC reduced tissue lipid peroxidation, NOx levels, and iNOS staining scores in the experimental I/R model. Our data suggest that HBO-PC and O3-PC protect against oxidative/nitrosative stress induced by I/R in rat skeletal muscle.

Complications encountered in proximal humerus fractures treated with locking plate fixation.
We evaluated the complications encountered following locking plate fixation of proximal humerus fractures. ⋯ Our findings show that locking plate and screw systems represent a significant treatment option in the treatment of comminuted and displaced humerus fractures, with low complication rates. Accurate indication, protection of the head's inclination angle through appropriate surgical approach and proper technique, and fine calculation of screw length are essential for successful functional results.

The relation between sagittal morphology of the lumbosacral spine and the degree of lumbar intervertebral disc degeneration.
We investigated the relationship between the lumbosacral morphology and degree of intervertebral disc degeneration in a large sample of young patients. In addition, the relation between various morphological parameters (sacral table angle and sacral kyphosis) and lumbar disc herniation or degeneration was also evaluated. ⋯ The degree and risk of intervertebral disc degeneration and herniation increases in parallel to the decrease in sacral kyphosis and lumbar lordosis, and to the increase in sacral surface angle.

Functional results of conservative therapy accompanied by interscalane brachial plexus block and patient-controlled analgesia in cases with frozen shoulder.
We evaluated the efficacy of simultaneous interscalene block and catheter analgesia applied as an aid to conservative treatment in improving shoulder functions in patients with frozen shoulder. ⋯ In patients with frozen shoulder, interscalene block and continuous patient-controlled analgesia via an interscalene catheter provided sufficient analgesia and contributed to the recovery of shoulder functions through an effective and safe exercise program, with no side effects or complications. However, further studies are needed to assess the feasibility of home applications of interscalene patient-controlled analgesia to increase cost-effectiveness and patient satisfaction.

Locking plate fixation of three- and four-part proximal humeral fractures.
We evaluated the functional results of open reduction and internal fixation with a locking plate in patients with three- or four-part fractures of the proximal humerus. ⋯ Preservation of humeral head vascularity through minimal soft tissue dissection, fixation with a locking plate, and early postoperative motion were effective in decreasing potential complications following surgical treatment of three- and four-part proximal humeral fractures. The degree of fracture comminution and age of the patients affect functional results significantly.
