Randomized Controlled TrialAllogeneic blood transfusion decreases with postoperative autotransfusion in hip and knee arthroplasty.
We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of postoperative autotransfusion method on prevention of the need of allogeneic blood transfusion in hip and knee arthroplasty. ⋯ The need and amount of allogeneic transfusion were reduced with postoperative autotransfusion in both knee and hip arthroplasty groups with greater extent in knee arthroplasty.

Complications encountered in proximal humerus fractures treated with locking plate fixation.
We evaluated the complications encountered following locking plate fixation of proximal humerus fractures. ⋯ Our findings show that locking plate and screw systems represent a significant treatment option in the treatment of comminuted and displaced humerus fractures, with low complication rates. Accurate indication, protection of the head's inclination angle through appropriate surgical approach and proper technique, and fine calculation of screw length are essential for successful functional results.

Clinical TrialProspective analysis of surgical outcomes in patients undergoing decompressive laminectomy and posterior instrumentation for degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcome of wide surgical decompression and concomitant posterior instrumentation in patients with degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis. ⋯ Most patients with degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis benefit from decompressive surgery. Patients with long-standing preoperative symptoms and concomitant diseases often have poor results and are less satisfied with the postoperative outcome.

Functional outcome and complications following PHILOS plate fixation in proximal humeral fractures.
Proximal humeral fractures account for approximately 5% of all fractures. New plating techniques have been developed to improve stability. The purpose of this study was to evaluate functional outcome following plate fixation with the Proximal Humeral Internal Locking System (PHILOS) and to analyze potential implant-related complications. ⋯ Our results demonstrate that the PHILOS plate provides sufficient fracture stabilization in the treatment of proximal humeral fractures of elderly patients.

Calcium phosphate cement augmentation in the treatment of depressed tibial plateau fractures with open reduction and internal fixation.
We aimed to evaluate the clinical and radiological outcomes of open reduction and internal fixation augmented with calcium phosphate cement (CPC) in the treatment of depressed tibial plateau fractures. ⋯ CPC is a safe biomaterial with many advantages in augmenting the open reduction and internal fixation of depressed tibial plateau fractures, including elimination of morbidity associated with bone graft harvesting, the unlimited supply of bone substitute, the optimum filling of irregular bone defects, and shortening of the postoperative full weight-bearing time.
