[Hot saline irrigation as an alternative local adjuvant therapy in local aggressive bone tumors].
This study aimed to develop an alternative thermoinactivation method for biological inactivation of microscopic contamination on the cavity wall following curettage of local aggressive tumors. Hot saline irrigation was applied at various temperatures to bone cavity, with or without tourniquet on the extremity and temperature changes and local effects were investigated in vivo. ⋯ Our results show that, in order to achieve bone necrosis at 1-mm and 2-mm distances from the cavity wall, the optimum temperature for hot saline irrigations applied to the bone cavity is 80 degrees C.

Review[Osteotomies in the treatment of osteochondral lesions of the knee joint].
Excellent results of total knee arthroplasty have outweighed high tibial osteotomy applications in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee joint, but there is a growing interest in osteotomies as an adjunct in the treatment of full-thickness chondral and osteochondral lesions of the knee. Abnormal biomechanics in both tibiofemoral and patellofemoral articulations resulting from instability and malalignment should be corrected and osteotomy should be regarded as the first step in the treatment of these lesions. ⋯ Clinical, radiographic, and experimental studies have shown beneficial effects of osteotomies on cartilage regeneration. The aim of the osteotomy is simple: cartilage needs proper biomechanical environment for healing.

[Total hip arthroplasty in patients with osteoarthritis secondary to developmental dysplasia of the hip: results after a mean of eight-year follow-up].
We evaluated eight-year results of total hip arthroplasty in patients with osteoarthritis secondary to developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). ⋯ Successful results can be obtained with good planning and proper surgical procedures in the treatment of osteoarthritis secondary to DDH.

Case Reports[The modifed Eden-Lange procedure for paralysis of the trapezius muscle].
Trapezius muscle paralysis results from injury to the spinal accessory nerve. Impairment in the trapezius muscle function may destabilize the muscle resulting in winged scapula. A 25-year-old university student who was active in sports had complaints of shoulder drop and pain on abduction. ⋯ Electromyography revealed isolated paralysis of the trapezius muscle. The patient underwent reconstruction with the modified Eden-Lange procedure. After a two-year follow-up, asymmetry in the shoulder decreased, there was no pain on active abduction, and the patient returned to active sports and was fully satisfied with the outcome.

[Treatment of osteochondral defects of the knee with autologous bone graft and chondrocyte transplantation: an overview together with our results].
Iliac bone grafting and matrix-guided autologous chondrocyte implantation (MACI) can be combined to treat large osteochondral defects of the knee. In this prospective study, we evaluated clinical and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings after one and two years of this treatment method. ⋯ Matrix-guided autologous chondrocyte implantation combined with bone grafting may be successfully used in remodeling the joint surface, without causing donor site morbidity within the knee joint. In addition, subchondral pathologic alterations may be effectively treated. Magnetic resonance imaging is a reliable technique to evaluate the repair process.
