As postoperative pain after laparoscopic cholecystectomy may delay recovery and discharge, a multimodal and pre-emptive analgesic approach is necessary. This study demonstrated that a multimodal analgesic bundle improves postoperative recovery, using the Quality of Recovery-40K (QoR-40K) questionnaire during the first 24 h after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. ⋯ Multimodal analgesia significantly improves the quality of early postoperative recovery after laparoscopic cholecystectomy, as shown by the QoR-40K score.

Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) after pancreatoduodenectomy greatly influences patients' postoperative course. Several evaluation methods have been used to assess the risk of clinically relevant POPF (CR-POPF) after pancreatoduodenectomy namely, the original, alternative, and updated alternative fistula risk scores (o-FRS, a-FRS, and ua-FRS, respectively). ⋯ o-FRS, a-FRS, and ua-FRS were almost equally useful for risk evaluation for CR-POPF after pancreatoduodenectomy. Further studies, especially for preoperative objective evaluation of pancreatic gland texture, are needed for more useful and accurate risk evaluation.

Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) is increasingly used to treat peritoneal metastases from appendiceal or colorectal origin. We evaluate our institution's experience and survival outcomes with this procedure, and its efficacy in symptom relief. ⋯ CRS/HIPEC is beneficial to appendiceal PM and selected colorectal PM patients - improving survival and offering prolonged symptom relief, with reasonable morbidity and mortality. Complete cytoreduction is key to realising this benefit.

Comparison of short-term efficacy of transanal total mesorectal excision and laparoscopic total mesorectal excision in low rectal cancer.
The transanal total mesorectal excision(TaTME) of rectal malignancies is largely referred to as treatment of mid to low, especially low rectal cancer. This study was to compare the short-term efficacy of TaTME and laparoscopic total mesorectal excision (LaTME) for low rectal cancer. ⋯ TaTME is a promising surgical technique and maybe offers a safe and feasible alternative to LaTME in managing low rectal cancer.
