Review Case Reports
[Sacral insufficiency, unexpected clinical entity as a cause of low back pain. Report of two cases].
sacral insufficiency fractures are a cause of debilitating pain in the elderly. These fractures were first described as a clinical entity in 1982. The bone in these patients is structurally weakened and often associated with diseases such as osteoporosis, cancer and immunological processes. This translates into back and pelvic pain unrelated to trauma. These fractures are usually caused by fatigue in most cases. Bone scans and MRI are the imaging studies with the most sensitivity for detecting sacral insufficiency. ⋯ sacral insufficiency is an underdiagnosed disease, caused by wide range of diseases, mainly osteoporosis. The studies of choice for diagnosis are MRI and bone scans. Techniques, such as percutaneous sacroplasty, produce significant improvements in pain scores and seem a suitable alternative for managing this disease.

Comparative Study
[Validity and consistency of a new scale (Faces Pain Scale) and of the Spanish version of the CHEOPS scale to evaluate postoperative pain in children].
one of the most used scales for the evaluation of children's pain is the CHEOPS. This is complex, reliable but not commonly used in spanish. We decided to create a new Pain Facial Scale to be considered to be used in spanish. ⋯ two scales can be used to evaluate the post-operative pain in children between 4 and 8 years old.

the combined heart valve surgery and coronary artery bypass graft surgery has increased in frequency. The combined procedures have an increased risk of perioperative complications and mortality and usually is realized in older patients. We present our experience with this combined procedure. ⋯ it was concluded that combined valve surgery with myocardial revascularization has similar results to that reported by other authors and on this basis this procedure is safe and useful.

the morphology and the morphometric characteristics of the sacrum and its components determine the size of pedicle implants in both width and length and the orientation of the screw at the time of implantation. The present study aimed to determine the morphometric characteristics of the sacrum in the Mexican population in order to establish safe approaches for the placement and orientation of the screws during lumbosacral instrumentation. ⋯ the results from this study are important for the correct screw placement and position in lumbosacral instrumentation, and also for other procedures that involve the sacral region as a surgical and diagnostic target.
