Liver resection using a soft-coagulation system without the Pringle maneuver.
The Pringle maneuver is generally performed to reduce the amount of blood loss during hepatic resection. We have developed a method to sufficiently control blood loss during hepatectomy without applying the Pringle maneuver. This study was performed to determine the safety and operative blood loss in hepatectomy performed by this new method. ⋯ Our data suggest that hepatic resection using a soft-coagulation system without the Pringle maneuver is extremely safe and effective in controlling bleeding.

Review Case Reports Multicenter StudyPancreatic injury in children: review of 7 cases and the pertinent literature.
Treatment of blunt injury of the pancreas in children remains controversial. Some prefer non-surgical treatment, whereas others prefer surgical management in selected cases. This report reviews our management strategies of children with blunt pancreatic trauma and their outcomes. ⋯ ERCP is helpful for the diagnosis of suspected cases in pancreatic injury with grade III. In hemorrhagic shock state, appropriate surgical procedures with only drainage at the margin of the pancreas are useful for the treatment of pancreatic fistula in children.

A non-randomized comparative study of laparoscopy-assisted pancreaticoduodenectomy and open pancreaticoduodenectomy.
Laparoscopic surgery for periampullary disease is still a challenging operation. The aim of this study was to compare the perioperative outcomes of patients undergoing conventional pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) with the outcomes of those undergoing laparoscopy-assisted PD. ⋯ Laparoscopy-assisted PD is a feasible and safe surgical procedure that provides the advantages expected from a minimally invasive surgery including less blood loss.

Serum and tissue vascular endothelial growth factor predicts prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma patients after partial liver resection.
To explore the effect of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression on prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after partial liver resection. ⋯ Serum and tissue VEGF level of HCC patients ascends distinctly, correlates to the recurrence of HCC after partial liver resection which can be used to estimate the risk of postoperative recurrence of HCC.
