The aim of this review was to point out some critical points in spinal surgery. We present a good idea dealing with the subspecialisation in neurosurgery. Spine surgery is a good and especially timely example for it. ⋯ In this paper, it was concluded that productive collegiality between neurosurgeon and orthopedic surgeon is necessary for the advancement of spine care. This could be to build an own specialisation of spinal surgery. But for that this speciality needs his own and common research, not a part done by neurosurgeons and one by orthopedic surgeons.

Radiographic and intraoperative imaging of a hemisection of the spinal cord resulting in a pure Brown-Séquard syndrome: case report and review of the literature.
Brown-Séquard plus syndrome (BSPS) or incomplete spinal cord injuries from stab injury have been widely reported. However, only four detailed cases of pure Brown-Séquard syndrome (BSS) from stab injury have been previously reported. Here we present the case of an 18-year-old man who sustained a penetrating knife stab injury to the right side of his back resulting in a pure Brown-Séquard syndrome with left lower extremity hemiplegia. ⋯ Given concern for a cerebrospinal fluid leak (CSF) leak, the patient was taken for wound exploration, irrigation, laminectomy, dural closure and lumbar drain placement. At three years follow up, the patient was almost full strength. This is the first case in the literature demonstrating radiographic and correlative intraoperative imaging of a hemisection of the spinal cord resulting in a pure Brown-Séquard syndrome.

Trigeminal neuralgia (TN), one of the most intense forms of facial pain, has been the subject of great clinical interest. Significant advances have been made in its management, including surgical treatment and imaging of the trigeminal nerve and associated neurovascular compression. The different options for surgical treatment, recent advances in each as well as novel methods of imaging of the trigeminal nerve focusing on diffusion tensor imaging/tractography will be discussed.
