Randomized Controlled TrialPreemptive sub-Tenon's anesthesia for pars plana vitrectomy under general anesthesia: is it effective?
To determine whether irrigation of the sub-Tenon's space with anesthetic agents during pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) involving general anesthesia decreases postoperative pain, analgesic use, or nausea. ⋯ Local blockade prior to surgery in patients undergoing PPV under general anesthesia does not significantly decrease postoperative pain, analgesic use, or nausea.

Case ReportsCorneal edema and permanent blue discoloration of a silicone intraocular lens by methylene blue.
To report a silicone intraocular lens (IOL) stained blue by inadvertent intraoperative use of methylene blue instead of trypan blue and the results of experimental staining of various lens materials with different concentrations of the same dye. ⋯ This is the first clinicopathological report of IOL discoloration due to intraocular use of methylene blue. This and other tissue dyes may be commonly found among surgical supplies in the operating room and due diligence is necessary to avoid mistaking these dyes for those commonly used during ocular surgery.

Intraocular biodistribution of mono-L-aspartyl chlorin e6 in a primate choroidal neovascularization model.
To describe the biodistribution of a hydrophilic sensitizer, mono-L-aspartyl chlorin e6 (NPe6), in a primate model of choroidal neovascularization (CNV). ⋯ This study demonstrated the selective accumulation of NPe6 photosensitizer and ICG dye within experimental CNV and rapid clearance from the circulation and retinochoroidal tissue.

A technique for repair of traumatic iridodialysis that avoids the need for iris sutures is described. Following a limbal peritomy, sclerostomy sites level with the iris base are created at each clock hour of the iridodialysis using a microvitreoretinal blade. ⋯ The conjunctiva is closed with absorbable sutures. The technique is suitable for use in simple iridodialysis repair and in conjunction with intraocular procedures.

Case ReportsManagement of bilateral ectopia lentis et pupillae syndrome.
A 52-year-old patient presented with signs clinically consistent with ectopia lentis et pupillae syndrome. The patient was treated successfully with vitrectomy, dislocated lens removal using perfluorocarbon liquid and phacofragmentation in the vitreous cavity, pupil reconstruction, and scleral-fixated intraocular lens implantation in both eyes. ⋯ This was caused by the optic nerve atrophy resulting from long-lasting glaucoma. Nevertheless, the described surgical techniques may be considered an effective method of treatment in cases of ectopia lentis et pupillae syndrome.
