Meta AnalysisEfficacy and safety of music therapy for the treatment of anxiety and delirium in ICU patients: a meta-analysis and systematic review of randomized controlled trials.
The medical application of music therapy (MT) has received widespread attention in recent years and some researchers have attempted to apply MT to the treatment of patients with anxiety and delirium in ICU. ⋯ MT can safely and effectively reduce the anxiety level of patients with anxiety and delirium in ICU and relieve their psychological and physical fatigue. And MT was able to maintain the stability of HR, RR, and SBP in ICU patients.

Meta AnalysisPeripheral nerve block and cognitive impairment after thoracic surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Postoperative cognitive impairment is common in surgical patients, including postoperative delirium and postoperative cognitive dysfunction. Several studies investigating the association between peripheral nerve block and the risk of cognitive impairment after thoracic surgery showed conflicting results. Therefore, we conducted the current systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the effects of peripheral nerve block on postoperative cognitive impairment in thoracic surgical patients. ⋯ This meta-analysis revealed positive effects of peripheral nerve block on improving postoperative cognitive impairment in patients following thoracic surgery.

Observational StudyClinical prediction of opioid use disorder in chronic pain patients: a cohort-retrospective study with a pharmacogenetic approach.
Opioids are widely used in chronic non-cancer pain (CNCP) management. However, they remain controversial due to serious risk of causing opioid use disorder (OUD). Our main aim was to develop a predictive model for future clinical translation that include pharmacogenetic markers. ⋯ Functional polymorphisms related to OPRM1 variant and CYP2D6 phenotypes may predict a higher OUD risk. Established risk factors such as young age, elevated MEDD and lower incomes were identified. A predictive model is expected to be implemented in clinical setting among CNCP patients under long-term opioids use.

Prevalence and characteristics of medical emergency teams in Switzerland: a nationwide survey of intensive care units.
Medical Emergency Teams (METs) have been implemented in many hospitals worldwide and are considered an integral part of the hospital patient safety system. However, data on prevalence, staffing and activation criteria of METs are scarce. Such data are important as they may help to identify areas of quality improvement and barriers to implementation of rapid response systems (RRS). This survey aimed to analyze current characteristics, prevalence, and organization of METs in Switzerland. ⋯ Less than 50% of Swiss hospitals with an adult ICU have a MET in place. METs in Switzerland typically include an ICU doctor and an ICU nurse and are available 24/7. Major barriers to MET introduction are staff shortage and lack of funding.
